Tesseract - First Chapter

I liked how each level was bringing in a new mechanic and slowly the challenge was picking up with each level. You do need some good spatial awareness for these puzzles. Game is running on the Unreal Engine 4.2. On my RTX 3080, I was getting a steady 90 fps. I did not experience any serioius issues or bugs. You have linear locomotion sort of like a tile-dungeon game. You also have snap turning on the same motion controller. Unfortunately, this control scheme will lead to you turning or going forward or backward by mistake on several occassions leading to some frustration. The game could also use some graphical settings. Overal, I enjoyed the puzzles. The visuals were minimalistic, but still interesting to view, especially for the style of puzzle. The music was okay enough. Overall, I found the game to be enjoyable. A very well crafted experience that builds upon its mechanics to create some really satisfying moments. + Levels are set out nicely and don't feel needlessly convoluted. Even as they get more intricate you'll be able to figure them out step by step. + There's vantage points that help with this, as well as little nooks and details - sometimes mysterious, always quite nice. + Moving the last piece into place in each level then walking along it to the gazebo is super rewarding every time + Sometimes you'll twist a structure around in a way which leaves you staring down at the base of the level trailing off into the abyss, and I think that's pretty cool + Good variety of movement settings, and support for different setups being actively integrated.

I am enjoying this - it is very moody. Once you get into it, the growing complexity and challenge grab hold. You want to know where this is leading. And when you pause, and take your headset off, it takes you a moment or two to adjust to the real world - a sure sign of a good VR game. Very promising - I look forward to seeing this game grow.

Fun and interesting puzzle game. I'm probably on the last level, but can only play for a short while - because I spend most of the time painfully fine tuning my movements. Spinning a block can be tricky. Slowly turning 95% of the way and releasing move the block back to the starting point. Too fast and it keeps spinning past where I want it to stop. I also rotate my direction too far much of the time (like a double touch). Traveling small distances often overshoots my target. I would definitely play this a lot more if the controls were more forgiving (or if I was more coordinated).

A really nice puzzler. Its not something that couldn't be done in non VR mode, but the VR view certainly adds to it given the world and its geometry, wouldn't want to play this without VR. Too bad that the rest of what VR has to offer in the form of controls wasn't used, but really enjoyed my time with it, so much that i'd love a second chapter. Interested in the story of the world and what the things on the walls are and how the world came to be as it is. Puzzles start up easy enough, with the last couple being head scratchers.

Works on Reverb G2. It is a decent dimension shifting puzzle, like Monument Valley in first person VR. A bit short, but it's fine for the 1st Chapter at the low price. The game starts slow and takes several levels before introducing the main mechanics of dimension shifting via portals. After that it quickly picks up the speed and raises a difficulty curve progressively, so the last 2 levels took me more time to solve than the rest of the game. Final level is hands down the best of the bunch, it made it worth going through slightly boring beginning levels for me. Grid based locomotion is a bit awkward in VR, but it is tolerable and works fine enough for this genre. Despite being designed for Quest, Tesseracts minimalistic visuals look ok on PC, just lack some graphical settings and better skyboxes. On the nitpicks side: there should be some protection from accidentally pressing New game button, destroying previous save file. Also amount of backtracking can be a bit annoying in the earlier puzzles. Every time after basically finishing the puzzle you are required to do just a bit more actions just to get to the end portal.
