The Corruption Within

A very short, old-school point-and-click adventure that draws lightly from Victorian horror aesthetics and classic DOS-era design. Its vintage visual style is pleasant, with a good use of color, and it is supported by solid music and sound design. Unfortunately, the experience is undermined by clumsy puzzle design (often reliant on pixel-hunting, repeated clicking, or arbitrary backtracking to exhaust new dialogue options) which makes progression feel blind rather than intuitive. The story and dialogue are weak, the structure is overly linear, and the much-advertised horror elements remain inconsistent and far too subdued to leave an impact. While it clearly aims to follow in the footsteps of classics like Uninvited, Shadowgate, Laura Bow, or Shadow of the Comet, it lacks their narrative weight and mechanical finesse, with immersion further broken by the intrusive inclusion of Kickstarter backer portraits. 4.5 / 10

A great short old-school point & click game with an engaging story and puzzles. I loved it.

Highly engaging storyline though the game was shorter than expected. The puzzles are linear and light enough so I could be more immersed in the plot than the mechanics.

A nice little diversion for a couple of hours. Point and click mystery. Search for your missing family and uncover strange happenings in a remote mansion. The story itself is fairly simple but enjoyable enough. It is very short (I completed it in full in just over 2 hours), so wait til it's on sale.

Was honestly a really nice game. It was a bit short and felt like I was rail roaded sometimes but overall I had some enjoyment with this game and it was wonderful.

Absolutely gorgeous art - very atmospheric and overall I genuinely enjoyed it. The puzzles were a little bit frustrating often reliant on repeated clicking, and wandering around aimlessly without any clue as to what to do. But this can be forgiven with a strong story, interesting set of characters and lovely world to explore.
