"The Darkest Tales — Into the Nightmare" is not a game. It's an advertisement for a product called "The Darkest Tales". The Darkest Tales is a rather mediocre platformer with a bunch of fake reviews... I reviewed it here: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198030784015/recommended/1307690?snr=1_5_9__402 But this isn't completely relevant because this is not The Darkest Tales, it's just an advertisment for it, so it's not correct to try to review that completely distinct product in this space. We must instead review this for what it is... an advertisement. If you enjoy advertisements, you can consume them for free on the web or on Youtube without needing to add them to your game library, download them, and then launch the advertising. It's impossible in a general sense to recommend people should do that over playing real, full games on Steam, and that applies here with "The Darkest Tales — Into the Nightmare" too. The purpose of this advertisement is to get you to shell out a whopping $20 USD for the full game... and I don't recommend you do. The game is creative and fun, but it needs controller adjustments, especially when the menus appear; I can't control it. The only thing that will make it legendary is adding a map.

I feel like the concept is really interesting but it failed on several aspects for me.
Good story well narrated, cute protagonists, well-developed characters, great graphics and settings--with an utterly broken and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fighting mechanics. You know, an important part of a fighting mechanic is giving the player the chance to dodge enemies with the right timing, or, in some cases, deciding what is the lesser evil when dodging is not possible. The Trinity Team seems to be totally unaware of it given how badly -truly awfully- the fight mechanics are implemented. There are times when the screen is full of enemies and there's literally no way to dodge them or jump over them, because you _will_ land on top of them -because of how they move and how your character jumps- no matter what you do. With so many excellent platformers out there (the Trine trilogy comes to mind), I'm having a hard time understanding how they implemented a core mechanic so badly to the point it makes playing the game an ordeal instead of having a fun time. If they fix the mess the fighting mechanics are I will gladly give this game a second chance. I liked everything else about it, and it makes me sad not wanting to play it because of how awful it feels.
