THE DESCENT VR

Be aware. This developer has a cheaper bundle of three of there games and one DLC. If you buy any of there games separately you are locked out of purchasing that bundle an getting the discount. I purchased Sinister Halloween and later in the year noticed there VR bundle. Couldn't buy the bundle. So price was 50% more if I wanted to buy the same items. This is anti-consumer practice. In the end. I purchased the bundle on another account. With the caveat the if the games aren't as good as promised that I can always refund. Out of the three games in the bundle this was by far the best. Partially due to how bad the other two are. This had the atmosphere correct but the VR mechanics where a little to unpolished. Using items was janky. Arms moved unrealistically. Arms would stretch to twice there length when pulling a door etc. The game practically shows you what to do (blue holographic images of the item to use next to the location) but figuring out what to do was sometimes a challenge. Also, load screens in A VR experience is a big no-no.

Scared the absolute crap outta me many many times playing this! Really great game! Graphics are pretty realistic for VR. Story is appealing and fairly fleshed out with lore. Just an eerie feeling all throughout. The sound design is spot on! Which makes a huge difference. I enjoyed trying to snap pics of the miners and ghouls. Which wasn't an easy task while jumping out of my skin! Only complaint is that it's not a very long game. Didn't want it to end. The ending was a bit abrupt but worked. I got this on sale and feel I got a great deal!

So far so good. I love the art direction here and the visuals are extremely tight overall. Early scares are probably in that 6 or 7 level which is actually perfect for a guy like me. There may be a little jank here and there but the overall package is more than the sum of its parts. Look forward to finishing this up to share more opinions. Update : Finished all the chapters at about 2.5 hours and had a really good time of it. Enjoyed the ever shifting levels and walking simulator aspects. Never got stuck for very long so momentum wasn't ever dashed. Recommend a play thru, especially at the good sales price. Not too scary for the novice horror fan, but just enough atmosphere for those craving a few jump scares.

I enjoyed this horror narrative experience. It isn't perfect and has issues, but all in all a fun little horror game. The visuals and sounds were great and I think all the more effective in vr. It is short, but that is to be expected from indie horror games like this. The story took a turn I wasn't expecting and I am still sorting through it in my head, so I am not sure if I like where the story ended up. The jump scares were good, some more effective than others and I really enjoyed it in vr. Turning my head and something is right behind me...that was great. Now for the things I didn't care for. I thought the camera was unnecssary and it is except for completing an achievement. I like the concept of using it for night vision, but unfortunately for me, holding the camera to my face for night vision made what little motion sickness I get, slightly worse. So I ended up not using the camera for the entire game. This game didn't really need a backpack. You can store 6 or 8 items, but I only ever needed it for 1 item at a time and that was for either a key or fuse. Great concept of a horror game in a mine, lots of scares, love the decorations for Halloween.

A very nice horror game in Virtual Reality. Played around Halloween and enjoyed the Halloween update. A nice story and plenty to explore and lots of scares.
