The variety of weapons is nice - each one has its own unique handling and feel. The level design keeps things fresh from start to finish, throwing new environments at you just when you think you've seen it all. Never once did I get bored - there's always something new around the corner. Highly recommended for anyone who loves singleplayer VR shooters.6 found this helpful
Played this after finishing the first game and wow. This expanded on the original by A LOT. All the stuff from the original is there. The gunplay, the humor, the graphic style, the weirdness and even the scary moments (me and my thalassophobia, coupled with this game... oof). In my review for the first game, I mentioned how it felt very similar to Half-Life with a touch of Portal. This game [i]also[/i] expands on that. By, like, a lot. The enemies are cool and well designed. The story is interesting to follow. The music is great! The levels are easy(ish) to navigate. The set-pieces are amazing. Honestly, just about everything about this game is AMAZING and truly shows what can be achieved in VR. Some people say it's equal or even BETTER than Alyx. I don't agree. I don't think anything can top Alyx, but this game is a VERY VERY [i]VERY[/i] close second. I do have a couple gripes about the game. Firstly: There's a couple bugs. Mainly in Chapter 10 and 11(?). After I escaped a certain building after beating a specific boss, the game tossed me into some water. Then tossed me up in the air again but then back down. Spoiler free. Very fun, and far more polished and entertaining than vertigo 1 (which I started but did not beat because the game seemed to stop working). There is *lots* and I mean *lots* of content in this game, and while I haven't tried much of the additional postgame content, most of it does seem to be significant and worthwhile. My main complaint is that, while the story is fun and entertaining, it doesn't really say a whole lot outside of one particular chapter which is neat and contextually understandable but thematically out of place. It pits two extreme political ideologies against each other, and makes the rather cold take that neither side is very good. If the story means a lot to you than more power to you but my life has not been meaningfully impacted by Vertigo 2, which is fine but a bit disappointing.
A VR masterpiece! Compared to Half-Life:Alyx: 1) Story and level design every bit as good. 2) Triple the gun variety, 3) Double the enemy variety, 4) None of the cabinets and drawers. It's TOUGH. I changed from normal to story mode for the first boss fight and for the final hours. Infinite ammo mutator would have been another way to go.
