✦ AI summary

Elder Scrolls: Arena is a nostalgic piece of gaming history that appeals primarily to long-time fans willing to engage with its dated mechanics and design, though players widely note that its brutal difficulty spikes and labyrinthine dungeon design make it exhausting without external guidance like maps or forums. While the game is technically playable on modern systems and works well on Linux, its clunky controls and graphics require workarounds or mods to enjoy, and many find that the experience is mainly valuable for historical appreciation rather than engaging gameplay by modern standards.

Absolutely amazing game! I just did my first playthrough electing to go in blind, and it is honestly the best RPG experience I have had in a very long time. It is crazy to think that this hit the market in 1994, from procedurally generated dungeons/wilderness, to spells that literally allow you to pass through walls. Having experienced Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim I chose my go to race/class Breton Spellsword as I prefer versatility over a static archetype, plus I like playing as short characters *chuckle*. Though I had to look up a few riddles "the only part I broke the blind playthrough with" it was a true joy figuring out the games mechanics, from dropping off equipment for repair and logging the smith's location on my map for pick up later, to figuring out where the palaces/mages guilds/taverns/temples are identified, even the small nuances like being attacked in lawless cities/towns at night or that most citizens go indoors and establishments "except taverns" close at night forcing the player to camp until morning making the day/night cycle actually matter. Different biomes for each region, events that spawn year around in the different regions "Some even affecting w…

Super difficult game to recommend because it's honestly really clunky in the modern day and not a good role-playing experience, but it has some pretty kickass dungeons. Plus, when you finally hit a character build that works, it feels really cool to tear through your enemies. If you enjoy dungeon crawls of any kind and are willing to remap the controls, this game is definitely worth a try, especially if you're an Elder Scrolls fan. It doesn't hurt to see where it all started (and, if anything, it might make you appreciate the direction the series ended up going that much more.)

This game deserves at least a remaster. It was a very harsh time trying to figure out the controls and game mechanics, but despite that I had an awesome fun. Will I continue playing ? Most likely not. Maybe only if the OpenTESarena project reach its successfull completion - I have a feeling that would be the only viable way to enjoy this game without having to struggle with too difficult controls and poorly aged design choices.

It was a little confusing to me just because I'm not used to games so old, but upon getting more used to the game and realizing that there is a MAP where you can FAST TRAVEL (like normal), oh boy....I stopped walking everywhere and began crime fighting. I like the music and I like the vibe, and you know I'm playing this because I'm a sucker for TES. I guess I liked one of the songs so much, that despite not being very skilled or patient with making music, I tried my shot at remaking it. There's no reason not to play this game if you like TES and old games. Helps that it's free too.
