About The End of You
The End of You is a short, emotional narrative game about love lost, the ghosts of the past, and the ungraceful clambering, oftentimes painful crawl towards closure. Interact with domestic objects, seek out memories, and embrace feelings that cut as sharp as a knife.
It feels like the apartment is alive with the remnants of her in every corner. The mug she left behind rattles. Her toothbrush buzzes. The battered cassette whirs. You can’t remember what was even on the tape. “Our song” is written on it. Should the tape be yours or hers? How do you decide? You hesitate over whether the tape should be tossed in her box, simply labeled Emily.
When the lights are off, you see her. Not her exactly, but the past version of her. Is that even accurate? Perhaps it’s simply a version of her you’ve created in your head. You see her everywhere - the kitchen, the bedroom, and the balcony. Who knew such a tiny apartment could contain so many ghosts of her. You decide what you say to her. You rehearse these conversations even though you know the ending.
As Walter, you will reluctantly pack away all the objects from a past relationship. Heartbreak exists in every crevice and in the seemingly most ordinary items. Can all the ghosts and the heavy weight of the past fit in a cardboard box? It seems impossible, and yet, you will try anyway. Wrestle with Walter’s mental health, listen to the whispers of old memories, and find some closure.

A short game for those that go through a difficult period in their relationship.1 found this helpful
4/10 The overall story and how they present it is good. I just had a hard time figuring out how to progress the game. (An option to list objectives or hints would have been helpful.) Basically you, the husband, interact with a specific item that was owned by your wife to trigger a memory. Once you interact the apartment gets dark, so dark I really had a hard time finding where to go to 'talk' to her. (I didn't see a option to increase the brightness) I kept wandering around unable to select anything that eventually I would just quit because I thought I was stuck. I also didn't realize I needed to place Emily's items into the box in the living room, and once I realized it I couldn't find where I left the item. Maybe I just missed the instructions but I never saw a explanation how to play the game. Even though it's a simple game I didn't have a good first impression after struggling for a solid 30 minutes. Every so often the mouse would stop working, but it's easy to fix if you hit ESC to open the menu screen and then hit RESUME. Sometimes the cassette player wouldn't play the cassette I inserted and I'm not sure if there is a video with the VHS but I couldn't get it to play. …
I loved this developer’s (Memory of God) previous game, “The Stillness of the Wind.” That game was also quite sad, but it was also a celebration of a life, and it told its story through narrative and mechanics. “The End of You” is just a short sad story about the end of a relationship. The mechanics are minimal and just gate the next short scene. The quite short runtime doesn’t give you enough to really connect with the characters. I did like the grainy aesthetic and the small apartment location.
best thing about this game is that you barely notice the pixelation through the tears
A haunting a beautiful experience. Explore your "empty" apartment and find object from your previous relationship. Each object is tied to a memory that creates a picture of a withering relationship. Search your apartment for her things as you try to decide who you will be going forward.
