The Escape Room Chronicles ep1:The Mysterious KumaDonald's

This might be interesting for the few people that played in on the original hardware back in the day for nostalgia reasons, or maybe for like a young sibling. Otherwise this is not really worth the asking price. The game is slow and clunky, has both mind-numbingly easy and also buggy puzzles, and has this super annoying puzzle logic of "oh this is nothing important" until XYZ happens and then suddenly "oh this piece of paper is exactly what I need" - I'm happy puzzle designers moved on from this practice. Can't really recommend this. I got 100% achievements in about 80 minutes - might be more or less depending on how easy or buggy the puzzles are on your end.

Where do I begin? The controls are very clunky. It feels like it was meant to play on an original NIntendo DS. At least the touch screen would make navigating a little less frustrating. There are two difficulties: Beginner and Veteran, but the player character just absolutely loves spouting what you're supposed to do with something even if you choose the latter, and part of [i]that[/i] is because he'll completely ignore something you'll need later until he sees the other thing on which it needs to be used and mentions something about it. Finally, to make matters worse, there's an achievement to get both endings, which requires the player to do the last chapter [i]twice[/i] if you didn't manually save near the end and then either ignore or play a bonus set of puzzles at the end. If you want something cheap, short, and easy, though, this might be your kind of escape room game. If not, just move along.

Fun little short and sweet escape room sim. It's very easy even on the hardest difficulty and the story payoff at the end was pretty whatever and clearly an afterthought, but it was enjoyable. Probably a good "baby's first" intro for someone new to the genre before getting into something like the Zero Escape series. [b]Rating:[/b] 7 / 10

Its a good escape room game but I have a couple of recommendations. There are unnecessary pauses in play leaving you thinking okay I'm ready to move on now please. Also, I don't really understand the reasoning between using an item or placing it, seems unnecessary to differentiate the two and the game itself didn't even seem to differentiate them in play. Lastly, combining items could have been easier. But the game has some good ideas. There are three chapter areas for episode 1.
