We played this game on stream and while there's one or 2 moments of "oh this is cool" thee entire game is a huge letdown. I don't know how there are so many comments praising this game's jumpscares but these are actually some of the worst I've ever seen. And lord knows I've seen enough for a lifetime. Constant reused assets, terrible jumpscares, complete lack of AND nonsensical story, terrible sound mixing, awful film grain and VHS effects for no reason, and I could forgive all of that if the game was longer. 4 bucks for MAYBE 45 minutes of content is pretty bad. I'm sorry, this one is not for me and I'm shocked it's for anyone at all YOU CAN'T EVEN PET THE CAT Here's our playthrough if you're interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0apYshM6GU
This house again... Marble in the maze, uh no. Apparently you can die at some point. Again, no. Not taking the time to properly investigate this game before purchasing was a mistake.
I have a genuine phobia of clowns and this game failed to scare me. The clowns just standing around in the environment were way scarier than any of the poorly done (and very predictable) jump scares. That said, this game definitely feels more like a test project/demo than an actual game. Puzzles were way too easy and predictable (except for the tilting maze puzzle - that was fun and nostalgic). The story was severely lacking and not much is explained, though I imagine it's difficult to do that in such a short game. Regardless, what the main character has to do feels very meaningless and overall the game just felt like a very cheap and unimpressive jump scare.
Calling all jump scare fans!! If you love getting your heart rate flushed multiple times while playing a fun game, then look no further. This game offers many fun aspects that I think you will enjoy, so give it a try if you are ready for a good rush. Rating: ★★★☆☆ (7.4/10) The Jester is a short VHS-style horror game that delivers exactly what you’d expect for its $4 price tag. It’s simple, spooky, and works well if you’re looking for quick horror content or just a brief scare. The atmosphere sets the tone nicely, and the jump scares hit at first though after a while, you can start to predict when they’re coming. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s a fun, bite sized horror experience worth checking out for the cost.
