The Real Laser Ball is a somewhat experimental 2D top down retro/minimalist/neon themed "shooter"/ripoff of SpaceWar! from 1962. The quirky difference here is that your weapon is also your propulsion as you shoot a big laser beam that both kills anything you point it at, and propels you away from where you're pointing it. Controlling your propulsion is critical as hitting the edge of the screen kills you. You can remap the controls and even change the resolution, which is more than most amateur games permit, so that's a plus. Unfortunately there's no support beyond 2006's 1080p (it's 2022 now, come on!) and there's an ugly screen filter that you can't turn off, which makes this a bit of a dud. While the game mechanism is almost unique as I've only seen about 3-4 games that use the same shoot/propulsion mechanic, it doesn't actually make the game fun. The minimalist art comes across as lazy, and slapping a 1980's "Vaporwave"/Neon theme onto lazy retro "art" does not a masterpiece make.
