The Short Trip

This stupid game changed my life. I know, pretty big statement for just a bundle of pixels moving across a screen but it did. For reference I'm 45 (46 in a few months) and I grew up poor and never got into video games as a kid. My parents, bless their hearts, just didn't have enough money to buy me and my 8 brothers any sort of game console. The most my ol' da could do was buy a ball every so often for me and the boys to share and throw around (though usually Jerrik would end up getting it stuck on some building or across the river). Once I had moved out and got a job, I realized I just didn't have time for gaming. You know, I barely had time to eat drink and sleep besides working. I'd hear about a new video game console through a show on TV or a new game through a friend that would game. It took me getting fired from my job (♥♥♥♥ you Robert, still wasn't my fault) and moving half way across the country to start working on a PC to even START to play games, and still I didn't like them. It was all to much for me, too many colors, to many things to click, why are there blocks and shapes UGH. I'd give this game a 5/10 in it's current state, which I don't think is necessarily bad, I just think this early on I should be generous with my thoughts on this game's future, because it definitely has potential. My thoughts are: - Simple graphics are nice, but it would be nice to have clarifications of what things are if we were to hover our mouse over them or a mechanic like that. - Controls are a bit "mechanical." Although they are deceptively simple, doing things requires a bit of getting used to the controls, which in my opinion, are a little awkward and could be rearranged or reformatted in a way that facilitates quick and smooth actions that feel more natural to navigate quickly and efficiently. - Small thing, but when the car goes straight upward or downward it becomes visibly smaller than if driving diagonally or horizontally. - This game is what it promises, a more casual relaxing type of game, but I would like to see in the future perhaps a more chaotic mode, where natural disasters, large creatures, and other such extreme hazards spawn throughout the game creating an experience that is constantly requiring fast-thinking and full attention. - Multiplayer would be a fun…

Simple and fun, especially if you like driving and pixel style games

The game in its current state is mostly unplayable using a controller as most of the buttons either don't do anything or just don't make sense as to what they're bound to. Currently you can't navigate your inventory with the controller. The settings on a Samsung 49 inch Super Ultra Wide is completely un-navigatable because the settings menu is gigantic to the point where it's mostly off the screen and you can't access it. If you zoom out entirely, as you would expect, You'd be able to see everything, but things become so aggressively pixelated that they go from being able to understand that that's a water jug to it being two or three pixels and they're blue. You have no idea what you're looking at. Same thing with the sausage, gun, or any item at all. If you zoom out completely, again, as you would on such a large monitor, it's completely unplayed. You can't tell what you're looking at at all. A lot of the functionality with the car is just completely unintuitive or cannot be accessed with a controller. Even though it says Xbox controller is good, a lot of buttons just don't work as the d-pad on the controller does nothing and you still need a keyboard. And even then, because I can…
