The Strange Lights is a psychological horror adventure that focuses on suspense, exploration, and environmental storytelling instead of relying on fast-paced action or frequent jump scares. Developed and published by JustTomcuk, the game casts players as a journalist determined to uncover the truth behind disturbing reports coming from an abandoned factory hidden deep within a remote forest. Residents have witnessed unexplained blue lights illuminating the night and have heard strange noises echoing through the area, creating rumors that have remained unresolved for years. This intriguing premise immediately establishes a compelling mystery that encourages players to investigate every clue while venturing further into increasingly unsettling surroundings. The game's narrative is driven by curiosity and the gradual discovery of hidden secrets rather than lengthy dialogue or cinematic storytelling. Exploring the abandoned location feels meaningful because every environment hints at a forgotten past, inviting players to connect scattered details and form their own conclusions. Choosing a journalist as the protagonist strengthens the experience, as the investigation naturally revolves…2 found this helpful
If you're a fan of short but intense indie horror games, "The Strange Lights" is definitely worth checking out. The sound design is exceptional—I honestly can't remember the last time a game impressed me this much in that department. It does an excellent job of building tension throughout the experience. The only real downside is the length, as it can be finished in under 45 minutes. Also, some of the jump scares felt a bit too "in your face" rather than genuinely unsettling. Overall, I'd give it a solid 8/10.1 found this helpful
Fun, short horror game. The story is told in quick snapshots but its the ambiance that gets you. Anxiety inducing sounds and images.1 found this helpful
Not a bad game, even though it feels like more of a demo than a full release. Sound design is great and immersive and a few cheap but still effective jumpscares. bonus points for including a cornfield even if it is a bit cliché. not much in terms of replay-ability but id still recommend. 7/101 found this helpful
Perfect amount of tension throughout the game. I think more jump scares are needed, but the story worked great.
I'm a bit confused on where I have to go through the old factory, it has great sounds and it keeps you on endges though more than one cheap jumpscare is disappointing, it got me the with the deer but the rest was pretty predictable with the crows and all. there should be an option where you can turn off the head bobbing because it makes me dizzy and it is so hard to locate where you have to go sometimes as it disorients you, the worst part about it is, you do not have a saving option nor in game settings. when i left to adjust the volume and to see if the headbobbing is adjustable it put me back to the beginning which ruined it for me. it is recommendable if you easily get scared, but not if you seek more than just a few jumpscares. I really hope to see some improvements.
