The Tiny World

The translation is pretty solid, and the story does hit the right emotional notes, even if not much actually happens. The dark ending feels like the only honest one — it’s simply much easier to believe in than the fairy-tale version where ordinary young adults suddenly turn into an onii-chan and onee-san straight out of a generic manga. And honestly, even the sweet sugary final is spoiled by how clearly the story is tied to a specific time period: COVID and war are waiting just around the corner, and melancholic Diana is unlikely to weather all of that...

I have mixed feelings about this game (although overall, I'd lean slightly negative). The hand-drawn visuals are beautiful, and the soundtrack is thoughtfully chosen, perfectly matching the tone of each scene. At the same time, the game is too short - a single playthrough takes less than two hours - and very linear. There are only three choices, and they don't significantly impact the story. I'm conflicted about the game's main selling point: its emotional narrative. It aims for a 'cozy but sad' tone, set against a winter/New Year/Christmas Eve backdrop. While it successfully delivers a reflective, melancholic atmosphere, the story itself is rather predictable. Overall, it's a niche experience. If you're a fan of emotional, slice-of-life drama, you'll likely enjoy it - but it may not appeal to everyone.
