The Untitled Tower

There are save points. Has english support. This game felt like a hidden gem. A lot of care seems to have been put into making it over so many years, with such a unique way of presenting its story, fun characters, and an astonishing amount of gameplay with which the creator can get very creative (there are definitely some fun wacky moments). I won't say it's a flawless masterpiece by any means, and it's probably not for everyone. However, with its low price of FREE I would absolutely recommend to at least try it out.

When I first started playing this game, I really wasn’t feeling it. The early game is pretty slow to start, the jump physics and controls are a bit jank, the bosses weren’t too impressive. But as I went further and further into this behemoth of a game, it gradually became greater and stronger all across the board. New gimmicks in every area! Hard bosses with cool danmaku patterns! The controls… well they still stay kind of jank. But in the end, after clearing, I think the game stands strong as a solid action platformer with some flaws. And it’s partially these flaws that help to elevate the experience into something memorable. The Untitled Tower is first and foremost a platformer. Every area has tons of jump setups that start out basic but get more and more elaborate as the game goes on. While the early game just has simple jumps between stationary platforms, maybe killing some non-moving enemies on your way, the late game has you jumping around moving platforms while instakill lasers phase in and out of existence and enemies fire a hundred missiles at you. The Untitled Tower is a sprawling 2D action adventure built around a deceptively straightforward objective: escape the depths of an enormous tower, climb toward its highest reaches, and rescue a princess held by a demon. That familiar fantasy premise soon becomes much stranger, however, as the tower reveals an eccentric collection of inhabitants, enemies, bosses, hazards, and unexpected situations. maybe you think it's fps games. maybe you think it's old n64 platformers. maybe you think it's arcade rhythm games with controllers that look like a device from the future. no. the best type of games are games made by one odd Japanese guy over the course of multiple years as they stew in their own game development juices, endlessly iterating on their ideas until out comes something that is both immediately recognizable in it's influences but also bafflingly strange in it's specific flavors. it gave us touhou, it gave us cave story, and it still continues to give to this day with last year's combo of Queen Of Treasure Isle and this game, The Untitled Tower. a bit of platforming, a bit of bullet hell, a bit of mean jokes at the player's expense, a bit of existential anime strangeness, and that's in the bare surface i've just started exploring. the game page says it would expect you to take 40 hours to beat this game and i believe it!!! i can't really judge games like this because i love them too much. i love seeing the rabbit holes that get chased when someone gets to really explore their passion. . i love this ♥♥♥♥. if the cost of living in America wasn't so horrifically high …

The Untitled Tower is a much bigger game than I expected when I first saw the title. It starts with a simple goal of climbing a mysterious tower to rescue a princess, but it quickly turns into a huge action adventure packed with bullet hell sections, strange bosses, traps and completely unexpected gameplay ideas. I liked how unpredictable it is because I never really knew what the next floor was going to throw at me. The combat is where the game really surprised me. I have to deal with enemies, environmental hazards and large amounts of projectiles, but I am also given tools that let me fight back against the chaos. Some attacks can destroy incoming bullets, while the rolling dodge gives me a way to escape situations that initially look impossible. I enjoyed learning when to attack and when to simply get out of the way. The weapons are another strong part of the design. Each one has special techniques that can completely change how I approach certain situations, so experimenting with them can make difficult encounters much easier. "The Untitled Tower" is a weird Japanese hybrid 2D retro platformer/bullet hell shmup. The idea is that you're a little anime girl and you have to go rescue another little anime girl in a tower/dungeon/whatever. It's an uninspired mess, and the lack of inspiration ties in perfectly to the lack of quality. What do you do in the game? The game is split into shmup and platforming sections. Both are poorly done and uninteresting, although they do at least appear to be mostly bespoke. This feels like a genuinely, if badly made game. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. Now on to pricing and value for gamers.
