The Witch & The 66 Mushrooms

It was better than I expected for the price but only by a little bit. Controls were pretty jank and the upgrades were really just new weapons, but the exploration was almost there. It goes on sale all the time and if you need to kill an evening for a few bucks this will do.

This game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hates me, but its alright, it just pisses me off, im not going to search for your magical bottle or whatever the ♥♥♥♥ i missed in some random ass room four months ago anymore, ♥♥♥♥ you (its alright though if you play it in regular sittings as opposed to comign back to it over the course of months)

Now knowing that the controller issues I had before were not the game's fault, I dived in with renewed fervour...only to be hit with disappointment once again. [h3][b]Yay:[/b][/h3] + Very distinct style, and favoured presentation. + The Mushrooms take multiple forms. [h3][b]Meh:[/b][/h3] ~ Nothing to report. [h3][b]Nay:[/b][/h3] - I found the movement to be very awkward, with the double jump also doubling as a slippery glide, so many platforms were missed. - Nothing is marked on the map, and the only hint you get that something's a mushroom is if it's bouncing. Sparkles, or a uniquely-coloured border would have been nice... - Nothing by way of a mushroom catalogue that I saw, and information is both hidden on the pause screen, while only revealed in chunks with unknown-triggers... - Healing items are way too rare, combat, also somewhat awkward, …

The best pixel art I've ever seen. Very compact. A wonderful game, from your "nes childhood memories"

This was a really cute and fun mini-Metroidvania. The gameplay is nothing new or incredibly special, but it definitely scratches that Metroidvania itch. I also liked the presentation, although I think my partner found the music annoying based on how often she hummed it. I enjoyed finding all the mushrooms, a lot of them were very cleverly hidden, but they also all had hints to help you find them. Getting to the end and having a sheet full of them was a nice thing to look at. I'm not sure I'd recommend it to everyone, it didn't blow me away, but if you love Metroidvanias and are looking for another shorter one to play, this is a good one.

Got everything including the cat thing. Cute little short game, combat is fun, and the exploration albeit very compact is also really cool. I like how all the mushrooms have hints for how to get them and how the Crow at the beginning tells you where to go if you're lost. Unfortunately, even with these quality of life features the game is REALLY not good at communicating things to you, a lot of progression in this game is very unclear. I remember getting stuck back when I first played it because I didn't understand the book puzzle and dropped it back then. Also, settings are very obtuse to access. You need to press F1 to set the game language to english and configure screen resolution, which I had completely missed back on my first playthrough.
