About Time on Frog Island

A terrible storm ravages the seas around you, casting your mighty vessel into the perilous rocks of a nearby island. You awake to find your ship in pieces, shipwrecked on a strange island filled with… frogs?A spaghetti network of trades will take you all over this strange island as you seek out materials to fix your boat. You will meet a cast of friendly characters, solve head scratching puzzles, find hidden treasures, and much more as you explore the world of Time on Frog Island.
 • Make your own path in this island sandbox, you never know what will be around the next corner!
 • Get to know the froggy locals and help out where you can.
 • Discover new items by fishing and farming, and concoct simple brews that will change how you traverse the island.
 • Learn from the frogs and put your new skills to the test around the island.
 • Ask around for the items you need, but bear in mind that you might need to do a frog a favor to get what you want.
 • Solve interesting puzzles to get your hands on required items.
 • Try not to get too sidetracked by island life!
 • Run faster, jump higher, fall slower, anything is possible if you’re holding the right item.
 • Discover different ways to complete those crucial trades.
 • Each object you pick up could end up being the key to something bigger.

After completing the short and sweet prologue chapter, I was wondering if the mechanics shown in it would translate well into the full, longer game, namely the imprecise jumping, fixed camera, and day-night cycle that forces you to get busy building a fire each night. Still, the demo was enticing enough for me to try the whole game. Well, no. Those mechanics do NOT work well in a game of this scope. The fire-building gets stale really quickly, the lack of direction (that some would probably call freedom to explore) leads to long fruitless backtracking sections, the wobbly jumping makes the platforming sections unnecessarily tedious, and there is a sequence of actions that locks your progress on one quest without ever explaining how you can reset it (leaving you to wonder if this is a bug, and it probably IS). These factors, unsurprisingly, make the fun and charm wear off long before you finish the playthrough. Play the free prologue instead.

Short, relaxing and sweet game.

This is another bare bones game that feigns having a lot of personality but doesn't really have any at all when you get into it. It has the aesthetic of "cozy charm" without actually having any of the depth which goes along with the aesthetic. Gameplay is next to non-existent, you walk around and find things to give to people. Utterly boring and hardly contains any creativity. It may be cynical, but I wonder if this development team even tried at all or if they just called it good enough when they have a working prototype and slapped a $20 price tag on it, which is just ridiculous for how little of anything there is here.

I really dislike how the quest system works. The game looks very chill but you need to keep track of everybodies needs. The controls are finicky and make it unclear what happens sometimes.

It wouldn't say I hate or dislike this game, but there's not so much to discover or reveal. I just wish there was a little bit more to the storyline. For the gameplay wise, there's no inventory feature, which is bearable, but not likable. The part I most enjoyed was
collecting scarecrows' heads
, but there wasn't so much benefit or achievement for being able to
keep those crows away
. It's a cute game for sure, but it was not the most memorable experience.
