About To Kill A King

Enter Rots….a foul-mouthed, short-tempered, and belligerent undead female warrior "erected" to serve the Ignoble King completing his mundane tasks and honoring his frustrating requests. Venture into a world that takes jabs at the RPG genre, does not take itself seriously, and has a give no ****s attitude!

ERADICATE THE MEATBAGS

Battle it out in frustration with 100+ enemies and monsters determined to stop Rots for their own selfish gain and glory. Find and eradicate the numerous meatbags that plague the land, and just because Rots can't stand them.

VENTURE FORTH

Explore un-typical numerous locations, towers, dungeons and caves and watch as Rots' temper flares! Visit the Caves of Frustration, and stay awhile. Or shack it up in Rots' Lair for some quality reading and a bathroom break.

THE GRIND BUT SHORT!

40+ hours of RPG style game play that deviates from the cliche's of the genre and does not take itself seriously. Grind your way to restore Rots' lost power and seek revenge against the Ignoble King.

INFUSION

Infuse Rot's weapons, armor, and accessories from random items and parts taken from defeated enemies, or found in the world. Enhance your gear with extra stats of your choosing based on the item used. Careful when infusing, there are no take-backs!

ELEMENTS OH MY!

Exploit the elemental weaknesses of Rots' enemies. Be wary as Rots' foes are also able to exploit her weaknesses as well. Find items or abilities that can bolster Rots' elemental defenses, or weaken her foes.

THANK YOU AUTO-SAVE

Save early and save often! You never know when the enemy will take advantage of Rots' anger and frustration! Auto-Save is your friend and back-up plan for when you have forgotten to save before a big moment.

RPG with all the necessary ingredients, but it can’t escape the generic template and pacing issues. The game has limits because it was created with an RPG engine. For example, there is no full-screen option in the settings, so you must look it up online because the engine has its own buttons (F4 - full screen, F5 - game reset, etc.). Another complaint is that dash does not operate, which is odd given it can be seen under controls. The story doesn’t take itself too seriously. This becomes obvious right from the start where the big baddie has to deal with his two silly succubi who want nothing more than to get “punished” by their master. The script is not exactly for kids because there are a lot of F-bombs thrown at you, but it’s generally fine. However, it could use a bit of a touch-up because commas are missing form most sentences. Anyway, after being summoned to do the master's bidding, which does not make you pleased, you are obligated to do as you are instructed. If you've played a similar RPG before, you know what to expect. You explore the world from above, interact with chests, barrels, and other containers to find more or less valuable items, talk to people and purchase …

To Kill A King has a classic feel, and a fresh dose of aggression said classics don't really let you express. I've played a number of older games where the heroes are only too happy to go along with whatever is asked of them without a hint of frustration. Add to that the grinding that is always sure to make a person (i.e. me) very frustrated. Rots definitely gets that anger across, the game also has a lot of mechanical call backs to older games that I feel like people who like grinds will call back to.

A fun little oldschool RPG with the classic "Rough Start Snowball" setup and a satisfying amount of gives-no-♥♥♥♥ humor.

This could be an interesting game - but some points prevent that. a) the very small graphic...yes it is an RPGMaker game but even those have larger graphics. b) every dungeon is without light...doesn't matter if explore an cave or an tower...only a small circle around your character...in some of them there are torches..but you must first run past them to light them up. This is double trouble because of the small graphics...At times I felt like I was at an ophthalmologist....add that there is no hint about exit or even a minimap. c) No map..not for the overworld not for dungeons. d) No party...only your starting char....and at last till now I haven't found any area spells or skills. e) travel around is a chore. Yes, you can use an item to warp back to the starting castle....but that's a one way ticket. If you want to go back to explore more...have fun...you must walk through every dungeon again. Maybe if this were a F2P game....but for the ask price you can get much better games (and many RPGMaker games even for free).
