Frustrating, Unfair, and Artificial: A Classic Franchise Ruined by Modern Gimmicks As a veteran gamer with 30 years of experience playing tough-but-fair titles, I desperately wanted to love the return of this legendary highway racer. Instead, I was met with an incredibly frustrating experience that replaces genuine skill with artificial difficulty, cheap AI tactics, and mobile-game-style progression loops.The core of any great racing game is testing your driving line against your opponent's. Here, the driver AI is practically non-existent. Instead of advancing in skill, the game relies on egregious rubberbanding. When the AI is behind you, it disregards physics entirely, artificially sliding through every single turn like it’s on a train track. Even popping a nitro boost is completely invalidated because the AI instantly gains on you regardless of your speed. What is the point of upgrading and grinding if the game simply cheats to keep the opponent on your bumper? Because the AI dynamically scales to your upgrades, you never actually feel like you are getting better.Furthermore, the vehicle physics fail to recognize basic logic. I really wanted to give this game a chance but unfortunately the map feels kinda empty (not only the roads also everything else). And the map is very restricted. And the performance isn't that good either, even for my kinda high-end pc...menu control feels laggy and my grafic card runs hot even in the menu for no reason. I could live with the ingame grafics but my pc is running really hot too. It could be a really good game but some things need some improvement and more QoL features/polishing. For an beta game it would be good but as full release...hm...

fun arcade racing game. vinyl wrapping feels sluggish to navigate. runs like poopoo though.

Due to all the positive reviews, I really thought I was going to like Tokyo Xtreme Racer. Unfortunately, it just didn't click with me. The game runs pretty poorly on my PC while not looking particularly impressive either. I'd even say the world itself looks rather bland and uninteresting. The driving has its own style, and for what the game is trying to achieve, it's alright. However, I found the handling quite basic and restrictive overall. The sound also feels noticeably off. Engine sounds are extremely quiet compared to road noise, music, and menu sound effects. At one point I genuinely thought the engine sounds hadn't loaded at all. With the poor performance, strange sound balance, and fairly basic handling combined, I decided to refund the game. I can see why other people might enjoy it, but I don't think this one is for me.
