About Tower Of Penguinaria

General:
Tower of Penguinaria is a single-player pixel art Roguelite RPG game where you are a Penguin trying to stop the Evil Sealsorer from taking over Antarctica.
What Makes This Game Different:In addition to being a Rougelite, RPG, Dungeon Crawler, Timeloop, game (where character stats improve based on what you wear). Depending on what you wear will change what you're move set in the turn based combat will do!
There is also a death loop feature. Dying will make you enter Kenos (land of the dead) where you can unlock metaprogression to give yourself more time, or power, to defeat the Sealsorer who lurks on top of the Tower.
Finally a mix of unique enemies, traps, and bosses makes even crawling on this randomly generated 2d dungeon engaging. Timing runs over dangerous spikes, dodging meteors, and blocking attacks on the game map, before heading into the battlefield keeps crawling dynamic and fun!

Game Loop:
Enter the dungeon to get xp and money
Buy new gear to get further (and unlock checkpoints)perish or run out of time, allowing you to spend those hard earned levels on permanent buffs

A wonderfully charming, clever, and addictive single-player roguelite RPG that flips the script on classic dungeon crawling! Stepping into the flippers of an underdog penguin to stop the evil Sealsorer from conquering Antarctica is every bit as entertaining and quirky as it sounds. The gorgeous 2D pixel art and randomly generated floor layouts capture that timeless, high-energy retro adventure vibe flawlessly. What truly elevates the gameplay loop is the ingenious gear system: instead of standard level-ups, your combat moveset completely shifts based on the clothes and armor you wear, making tactical build experimentation incredibly rewarding. Navigating dangerous spikes and dodging meteorites on the map before diving into strategic, turn-based battlefields keeps every run fresh and engaging. It is the absolute perfect, light-hearted indie time-loop gem for testing your multitasking reflexes, mastering spell parries, and chasing that "just one more run" thrill—all for the grand price of absolutely free! An exceptionally fun, tightly focused dungeon crawler that is a must-play for any roguelike enthusiast. Definitely recommended!

I've been playing this game on and off during the last 4 months. I've been analyzing this and I cannot get passed floor 10 and I'm so overpowered from pouring in my points for damage and health, but still no dice. Occasionally when you go to the next floor you immediately hit a teleport room and it sends you back to the beginning and advances a day. The armor, weapon, and helmet system doesn't work properly either, you keep on buying these items but I don't see a proper enhancement but the health. I'm aware that the game is in early access, but some of these things I stated completely make it unplayable or unbeatable (unless I have really bad rng, but I doubt that). I have hope and I know that this game upon full release will be good, but it has kinks that need to be ironed out.

4.5/10 Minimalistic roguelike TLDR: A simplified sidescroller-like minimalistic roguelike somewhat resembling Desktop Dungeons. It's in a pretty rough state and hard to rate as it's still in Early Access. The dev seems to be still making major changes. Neutral vote Good: + free + there is an attempt to make a minimalistc RPG here So-so: +/- the pixelated gfx look like something you'd make in MS Paint. Which is okay in some other games like e.g. Baba is You. I'm certainly not fond of this style here but maybe it's a question of tastes +/- UI are stubs, with dialogs overlapping other dialogs, text labels not properly fitting etc Bad: - character movement is just about pressing A and D to slide (mostly from left to right). In a sidescroller game one would expect jumps. Or maybe a 2D top-down view. As it is, with just 1 axis of movement (even less, just moving from left to right) it's just too basic - combat generally resembles Desktop Dungeon: you attack, and the enemy instantly attacks back. The problem here is with the controls: you have to move over an attack button that's placed in the world to perform the attack. To use a magic attack, you have to move to the "magic" button, …
