About Typegrinder

Typegrinder

Type. Discover. Master.Typegrinder is a fast, keyboard-first typing game built around one simple loop: type words, discover new ones, and turn the words you own into weapons. No fluff, no menus to fight — just you, the keys, and the next letter.Every word you correctly type is added to your personal collection, sorted by length. The more you play, the bigger your vocabulary grows, and the more you can do with it.

Three Ways To Play

  • Freeplay — The discovery mode. Pick a letter bracket (anywhere from 3 to 12 letters) and chase words you've never typed before. Every new word gets added to your deck for that length.
  • Decks — The mastery mode. Once you've discovered enough words at a given length, that deck unlocks. Now you replay only your words, hunting for raw speed and a flawless run.
  • Online — The competitive mode. Bring your decks to global daily leaderboards split by letter length. See your live rank, earn medals on the bracket selector, and grind your way toward #1.

Designed For Typists

  • Built for the keyboard. Menus, mode selection, picker, gameplay, retries — all fully navigable without ever touching a mouse.
  • Ten letter brackets, from short and snappy 3-letter sprints to gnarly 12-letter marathons. Train the lengths you're weakest at, or flex the ones you own.
  • Instant restart. No load screens between rounds. The grind never breaks rhythm.
  • Clean, modern UI. Distraction-free typography, smooth animations, and a dark theme designed not to fry your eyes during long sessions.

Online Play & Daily Leaderboards

Online matches use a fresh daily seed, so everyone competes on the same words. Pick a mode and a letter length, see your current rank for that bracket right on the picker, then jump in and try to climb.
  • Separate leaderboards for every game mode and every letter length.
  • Live rank and medal badges shown on the letter picker.
  • Country flags so you can see who's gunning for the top spot.
  • No accounts, no friction — just type and your score is in.

Achievements For The Long Haul

Over 40 Steam achievements track everything from your first 10 discovered words to becoming a Dictionary Deity with 2,000 unique words typed. Forge a deck for every letter length, complete a flawless mistake-free run, or claw your way to the top of any online leaderboard for the rarest unlocks.

Why Typegrinder

  • No microtransactions. No accounts. No nonsense.
  • Buy once, type forever.
  • Built native with low input latency — your fingers won't outrun the game.
  • Equally at home for a 2-minute coffee-break sprint or a 2-hour grind session.
Whether you're a 40 WPM hobbyist looking to improve or a 150 WPM showoff hunting #1 — Typegrinder gives you a deck to build, a target to chase, and a keyboard that finally feels like the main controller.

I think this is a great concept that could get really fun if a lot of players were doing it. Definitely needs a lot of polish. Here's a list of bugs/weird things/feature suggestions: 1. Typing the next word too quickly causes it to not register the next letter when playing online decks. This is completely unacceptable for a typing game. 2. On the main online decks and online freeplay pages in the max wpm it seems to show all time (not daily). I think probably at the top level of that ui there should be a toggle between daily and all time and then that should affect everything on the page (including the modal) 3. I think for navigating ui elements WASD should work in addition to the arrow keys. The ui is simple enough that this should have 0 negative effects plus having a typing game be navigable with the keyboard really well is always a plus. I'd argue vim navigation keybinds could work too (hjkl) but that's pretty niche and I'd def be happy with only WASD. 4. Freeplay mode always is defaulting to being on 4 words for some reason. I think the best thing is to default to whatever they played last (alternatively you could default to whatever they were last on so if they navigate arou…
