Video: https://youtu.be/ErNGFyBB5bg Undergoes is a survival game with crafting where you're piloting a drill ship through a planet. Gather resources, build stuff, kill centipede ant things, and eat mushrooms. That's the general idea of what I saw in my playtime. I didn't put a lot of time into it because it's lacking a lot of the things that draw me to survival games. My video highlights more of the pros/cons of what I saw, but I'll do my best to summarize things here. Let's start with the general concept. We have a drill ship, travel through the interior of a planet a la The Core or Journey to The Center of the Earth. We find underground forts, large caverns, and some creepy creatures that we can hack to bits for some delicious snacks. There's also crafting, but in never really feels quite necessary or crucial. Which means I had little incentive to build anything, or create things. I feel like things would have worked better with creating additional parts of our ship, allowing us to build different crafting stations/research, decorations within it. A mobile base of sorts. The idea of finding my way back to a cave I'd been at previously seemed to be something that simp…

Undergoes is one of those games that gets you through the eyes. The art is the first thing you notice and it's genuinely good, it has an atmosphere that few indie games manage without a large team behind them. The problem is that when you start playing the loop feels slower than the aesthetics suggest. The caves are procedurally different but after a while they all feel the same. It's not that it's boring, it's that it never gets as interesting as it seems like it's going to be. Still, there's something that keeps you going down. If you're the type of person who enjoys the process of exploring and collecting without needing the game to pressure you constantly, you'll probably have a good time. It's not for everyone. But it's also not what some people say it is.

There's good and there's bad. This game being an indie developed game by a single person will always make me more forgiving. I think there are good mechanics and thought that went into this and definitely has a dev that cares and wants to improve from what I've seen. - The drill concept is very cool and I like that as a means of transportation, however can feel a little janky at times when you're wanting to look around in the drill since its controlled by where you're looking. I would like for a toggle on and off to set the direction. - There isn't much of a story, it's tough to care about what or why you're doing what you're doing in the first place without a real motive behind such. - The concept/tutorial are very concise and easy to understand. - Creatures are unique and creepy (in a good way.) - The UI could use a bit of an overhaul in terms of the crafting and menus. I would like the option of reloading a save or starting a new game. As of right now you get what you get. - There were a few bugs I ran into involving duplication of items upon reload. All and all this game is far from being "done" in my opinion. But I still think it was built on a solid and interesting founda…

I was genuinely excited to try this game, and honestly, I’m really impressed with what’s here so far. The Good: The graphics and quality settings look great. The tutorial is simple and straightforward. There’s a nice variety of items to collect. My favorite part by far is piloting the Drilling Machine to explore new areas—it’s a really unique and fun experience that gives a real sense of adventure. What Needs Improvement: Sound effects get repetitive fast. Just a few more would help the world feel more alive. Objectives aren’t very clear. You’re handed a crafting book and kind of left to figure things out. A little more guidance early on would go a long way. Story/progression isn’t obvious. If there’s a bigger goal or narrative, it’s not made clear. Animations feel stiff. Even some basic but more expressive animations would improve the overall feel. Overall Thoughts: This is a fun sandbox experience with a lot of potential. The core concept is solid and exploring caves in a drilling machine is genuinely enjoyable and makes this game stand out. If the dev keeps polishing sound design, animations, and makes objectives clearer, this could be something really special. One thing to…

[EDIT] For a game developed by a 16-year-old all on his own, this is already far from what many could have done. This game is very good for that standard. However, the comments below still stand. I'm looking forward to the development journey of this creator, and hope that through proper guidance and preseverance, Undergoes could eventually become a better game. First off, I received the game for free, so thank you David Montesi Rivas for your generosity. However, it's hard to recommend this game because of a couple of things. Firstly, I don't know what is supposed to be your buy-in for this game. Context matters. For the majority of my experience with this game, I don't know what I'm supposed to be building towards. There is a recipe notebook that prescribes what I can make, but I have zero incentive to actually make any of the recipes within. Secondly, the game has uninteresting environments. There are weird insect-like creatures that inhabit the caves, but there's no rhyme or reason behind the caves themselves. There are no biomes for as far as I could tell, except that caves appear to be differentiated between different kinds depending on what resources you could find in th…
