Untrusted: hackers at large

Basically this is Uplink 2 -- I am a huge fan of the Untrusted game and this prequel did not disappoint!!!

I'd hoped this would be a fun little distraction but it's just frustrating. The UI is frustrating. The escape key never does what you'd instinctively think it would, it's horribly obvious you're not using a real shell but some basic emulation of one, you have to take your hands off the keyboard far too often to use the mouse, I don't see a way to actually inspect files on your local machine, ... Solving the puzzles is frustrating. There's no freedom, just a set of obstacles (disguised) and you need to figure out which tool to apply to each, in the exact order the game wants you to. There's no real freedom. Missions open up which you don't have the tools for (which you only realise after accepting), and couldn't possibly have earned the money to buy them before the mission expires. So that's frustrating. There is little in the way of help. I've not gotten far in the game, just chapter 3 I think. I completed all the missions from Tokyo's BBS. I've bought all the exploits from the BBS. I withdrew all remaining $$s. What next...? There's a mission instruction in the top-left, but I have no idea how to do the thing it's telling me to do (no spoilers here). I don't see tha…

Just a couple of hours in the game but I'm already hooked! The game is very immersive and quite fun. I found the curve a bit steep from the tutorial to the "real" start of the game, but I'm not used to these kind of games so maybe it's just me. I was aware saving is not possible at any time and this is a big bummer for me because I have limited time to play... I will probably need to take some good old fashioned notes to resume sessions and progress the game.

Absolute Cinema

Untrusted pulled me in straight away. It’s engaging without being intimidating, even if you’re not into tech. I enjoyed very much the possibility to switch from visual interfaces to the console. The story is well built and keeps you moving forward naturally. A truly exciting experience, highly recommended!
