Valakas Story by BRUTAL SOFTWARE is a standout example of indie game development, crafted largely by a single developer with a clear vision and a unique cultural perspective. The game places players in the shoes of Valakas, a 54-year-old rural Russian man who unexpectedly rises to online fame as a streamer. Set against the backdrop of rustic Russia, the game blends action-adventure gameplay with a compelling narrative that explores themes of identity, transformation, and mystery, all imbued with a distinct sense of Russian humor and atmosphere that sets it apart from more conventional titles. The narrative begins with Valakas living a quiet, uneventful life in his village before his sudden foray into the digital world of streaming games. As his channel gains popularity, something mysterious occurs in 2015 — Valakas undergoes a transformation that makes his fans question whether the person behind the screen is still the same. This intriguing premise drives the story forward, inviting players to unravel the mystery behind the change and the secrets lurking beneath the surface. The writing is engaging, often blending humor with darker, more enigmatic elements, giving the story a laye…

First of all, after reading the discussions, I want to point out probably the most important thing that people mention most often. The game has absolutely no checkpoints. Yes, there are wells that you have to walk up to and press the “Save Game” button. Surprisingly, the game is actually very well made. When you play other meme games, the first thing you usually notice is that the game was clearly made in about an hour. The assets are good, the visuals are beautiful in their own unique style, and there are almost no bugs. But it's not without problems. It basically has no proper English language support. There’s only Russian. Subtitles in this game are just the bare meaning, not the actual translation. It would be incredibly boring. And the game is hard, and toward the end it becomes hardcore bc you die in one hit. In my opinion, that’s too much.

I didn't want to play this but my friends bought me this. Played it through and still don't wanna play it. Gives me brain damage to even think about those 5 hours I lost to this game. 5/5 would recommend.
