About Visitations
Visitations is a collection of vignettes designed to relax, entrance, and enhance the viewer’s state of mind. It makes use of techniques such as binaural beats, subtle strobing, form constants, and includes a body scan meditation, a dream induction, and a soundtrack developed by a healer with experience leading traditionally inspired ceremonies. The experiences in Visitations allow users to turn inwards and explore their own stories and mental states. The spaces are open vessels waiting to be filled by the conscious intentions of the users. Ancient shamans intuitively understood the power of the mind, and that their performances would conjure the body’s innate ability to heal. Modern medicine accomplishes a similar effect with lab coats and pills. Visitations employs technology to similar ends.
Development
Visitations has been designed from the ground up for use with stand-alone VR headsets like the Go, Quest and even phone based VR which greatly improves accessibility and ease of use. The scenes run in real-time and are procedurally generated. They never loop and are always different allowing them to be an effective object of meditation.
Art is Therapy
Ancient shamans intuitively understood the power of the mind, and that their performances would conjure the body’s innate ability to heal. Modern medicine accomplishes a similar effect with lab coats and pills. We are beginning to understand that technology can be employed to similar ends.
The Spirit of Experimentation
We are at the start of a long journey. Visitations is a place for artists and scientists to collaborate on experiments which will lead to a vocabulary and a set of best practices to achieving a variety of different therapeutic and aesthetic goals.
Techniques
Subtle Strobing Lights - have been shown to directly affect brainwaves, inducing dissociative states, even helping prevent Alzheimer’s.
Binaural and Isochronic Beats - have a similar ‘brainwave entraining’ effect as strobing lights and have been used for decades in meditation practices.
Form Constants - are geometric patterns which appear during altered states such as hypnogogia and hallucinations.
Tunnels - draw the eye to a single point in the distance.
Body Scan - is a common meditation practice, employed in Vipassana meditation and others.

Визуальный стиль, выполненный в минималистичной, почти монохромной палитре, идеально передаёт ощущение отчуждения и изоляции. Сюжет, развивающийся через исследование заброшенного дома и взаимодействие с немногочисленными объектами, оставляет после себя гнетущее послевкусие. Отсутствие прямого объяснения происходящего заставляет игрока самостоятельно интерпретировать события и строить собственные теории. Это не игра-головоломка, а скорее интерактивная история, акцент в которой сделан на создании настроения и провоцировании размышлений. Несмотря на небольшую продолжительность, "Visitations" оставляет сильное впечатление благодаря своей атмосфере и недосказанности. Рекомендую тем, кто ценит медленные, атмосферные игры с упором на повествование и готов самостоятельно додумывать детали произошедшего. Instead of being a game, "Visitations" is a software application that provides a badly done psychedelic "VR Experience" that the developer is peddling as a for-profit health cure. That's right, there's a $10 USD DLC that you have to pay for to get the full "curative" benefits of this garbage... it's a scam. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were…

This app has been used effectively on patients on ketamine in hospitals. While I haven't used any helping substances, it is still the only "meditation" type of app that actually worked for me. Its combination of visuals and sound is so effective, it is hard to keep your eyes open! There's a video on youtube, where the developer explains about the process of developing the app, and his collaboration with scientists and artists. I strongly recommend this! The demo is free and contains 50% of the content.
I feel terrible for not giving this app a review before now! For those who wish to use VR and delve deep into yourself, this app is for you! I've been a VRnaut since 2012. I remember the days when an app like this was a dream we all had and a few strove for. In my opinion, this app right here is the best of the best
