About Warhammer® 40,000: Dawn of War® - Dark Crusade

✦ AI summary

Command one of seven factions—including the newly awakened Necrons and technologically advanced Tau—in tactical battles across the desert planet Kronus in both a sprawling non-linear campaign and intense multiplayer skirmishes. Customize your heroes and armies while conquering enemy strongholds through strategic combat on uniquely themed maps that test your tactical prowess.

Deep under the central desert of Kronus, a vast honeycomb of skull-lined tunnels and funeral chambers house the awakening Necron menace. Eons ago, these were the boulevards and squares of a great necropolis built to house the bones of the races who had fallen to the Necrons, and ultimately were where the Necrons themselves retire to spend eternity. Over millions of years, sand and rock had covered it all until ill-fated excavations awoke the deathless.
Play any of seven races, striving for control over Kronus. Take other races' strongholds by winning challenging battles on various maps individually associated with the respective strongholds.
  • New Races
Take command of two new playable races: Tau and Necron to unleash massive carnage across the frontlines of battle.
  • Expanded multiplayer

  • Deep single player campaign
Conquer the planet of Kronus any way you choose - leading any one of seven races on an epic crusade through an all-new, non-linear single player campaign where you can experience unique storylines from each race's perspective.
  • Customization

In the grim dark future there is only war.
Dark Crusade is a peculiar specimen, for it seemingly is made around the Skirmish mode. It's a sizeable expansion that includes whole 7 races for the player to choose from: Space Marines, Orks, Chaos, Imperial Guard and Aeldari, which were already present in previous expansion, and newly added Necrons and Tau. All of them are relatively similar in how they operate (similar base structure, properties of buildings and tasks that units are best fit for) but have individual strenghts and weaknessess, which dictate required playstyles: for example, Aeldari have stealth-related abilities and fast vehicles, meaning that they are best used for fast attacks, Tau - strong ranged units, leading to their domination in fights from long distances, Necrons - economy that utilizes energy instead of requisition, enabling them to produce units at faster rate and in bigger quantities, if the generators can be kept intact (and strategic points, for they are used to accelerate the production rates!). Similar foundations make every race understandable and easy to pick up, while unique features greately diversify gameplay and bring lots o…

It was a mistake to play this game again on hard mode. My Boomer reflexes are not the same as it was 20 years ago.

I think that being the last of the Dawn of War series (back in its time), they sort of took certain details of each army and kept others intact. I think that's the difference with the former series. Nevertheless, it's still worth playing every single campaign with different armies.
