Great idea just executed poorly, gets stale quick. Feels unfinished and lacking in mechanical variety and enemy fight styles. Needs special AOE attacks like golden axe and more health pickups.

The game doesn't look like much - if you can get past that, it is an absolute blast. The environment is near fully destructible. The physics makes for some ridiculously fun beat-em up action. I'm a fan of the genre and have been for years - if you enjoy old school beat-em ups, you'll likely enjoy this game. Lots of levels, enemies, and unlockable characters.

You might think that you have seen evrything the side-scrolling beat-em-up-genre has to offer, but when you encounter "We could be heroes", you know that there will always be a new idea keeping that genre fresh and innovative. + a fight in which you can take everything as a weapon: grab a TV, a shovel or even a car's door and throw and smash them against your enemies - the environment is completely destroyable + nice aesthetics that are somewhere between retro and modern, fluent ragdoll animations that are always a pleasure to see (and fun!) + a long playtime, including four chapters with approximately 10 stages each, with plenty of locations you can visit, like a DIY store or a subway station (which has to be in a game since "Renegade", one of the first beat-em-ups I played in the last century But what is better than all of this is the incredible fun you have when getting fully interactive with the environment and game. Grab a partner to play together, and simply have fun together, including WOW-moments, laugh-moments (not only when a character flies round about the screen), and rewarding moments (lots of), when finding the hidden health pack, a special weapon or one of the unlo…

This game is so slept on. An absolute blast to play, the rag doll physics and destructible environments are hilarious and chaotic. I was surprised by the complexity of the combat; tight controls, unique retro graphics. I’m loving my time with We Could Be Heroes. This solo dev deserves more eyes on this great beat em up. (Runs flawlessly on steam deck)

I really want to recommend this game but I can't, while the presentation and physics implementation are amazing and sell that old school feel, the combat and enemy design sells it too, in the bad way. Fights are long, monotonous, and your characters moves don't feel distinct, and the enemies, while doing well in the visual difference department, always try to attack you in the same way. It's like you're fighting a million of the same gal, and it wore out my patience. I do appreciate the way almost everything can be used as a weapon, however, that's fun to see what you can use and how it works, and the physics implementation really does sell the violence and give the game some spice it is lacking in mechanics. Also when you die in a level it sends you back many minutes (playing on normal) and I found myself dreading having to go through the same area. I've not played for long, but I feel that I have played enough to get a good read on this game, because 6 levels in, the levels feel essentially the same with just a different amount of bystanders and props. The hero system is cool though, you get villain and hero points based on the actions you do and it's a nice little insentive …

This game is awesome! Ninja on the Commodore 64 was the first beat-em up I ever played. I was always a fan of beat-em ups and We Could Be Heroes is really special. I love how nearly everything can be destroyed and used as a weapon. I can destroy a door and use pieces of the door frame as a weapon. I can throw tomatoes at people. I can throw people into the environment, with the environment reacting to the body flying into it. If you grew up with beat-em ups, you would sometimes find a new game where you could do something new, like grabbing two guys and bashing their heads together. Back in the day, finding things like that in a new game was the coolest thing ever. This game gives that feeling. Being able to grab people and bash their heads against the environment is insanely cool. Having destructible environments in a beat-em up is rad. Not to mention the neutral characters around the game. Not everyone you see is a bad guy, there are lots of normal neutral people around doing their own thing that don't try to fight you when they first see you. You can become a lunatic and go ballistic on everyone and fight the neutrals too, or you can just fight the bad guys and save the good…
