Game is pretty good overall. There is one major thing holding it back, and it's parrying without a shield. It's bad, especially in over-the-shoulder mode. There's this auto-parry mechanic that makes your character move their arm to (supposedly) meet the opponent's weapon in order to parry. That's what it's supposed to do, but in reality what it translates to most of the time is your character deftly moving their weapon out of the way of the enemy's attack. You're supposed to keep your cursor on the enemy's weapon to execute a successful parry, but not only is this extremely difficult, it often doesn't even do what it's supposed to do and you end up taking damage anyway. It just turns most fights into a dull damage trade à la Skyrim. I will definitely change my review once parrying is focused on and improved in an update.2 found this helpful
This game is a passion project where the love shines through. I have played this game on and off over the years and always come back inspired to take a stab at one of the many backstory play throughs this game offers. The replayability is about 8 or 9 storylines that will honestly take you anywhere from 25-40 tries to get in my experience. I am over half way through the list, and honestly feel sad for the day that I retire my last gladiator. Thank you for this game, Jordy1 found this helpful

It's fun, engaging, and fresh. I wish you could dual wield one handed weapons. that is my only gripe with it.
Very interesting ideas and a lot of depth for career mode, there are tons of stats and options to play with. However, the combat mechanic is worse than Mount And Blade and since it's the core of the game, it's not a good sign... It's junky and really basic. You don't feel any impact at all.
I'm having a lot of fun with this game. It's the closest I've been able to find to something like Coloseum: Road to Freedom, which was an amazing ps2 game from my childhood. There are good and bad parts to the game. The bad, being that it's really easy to cheese victories with certain weapons, like the fist weapons and the 1h maces. I played 3 hours, never died once, and I'm now in full exalted armor, I find it kind of underwhelming. I feel like I'm never going to die while playing this game. The good is- it's super fun walking around like Sauron with a 1H mace and destroying everything I see. I do feel like I earned it so, that's cool. I'd like it a lot more if they added a hub world to walk around in, maybe a quarters to upgrade, to make me feel like I'm moving up in gladiatorial ranks or something. Because going from match to match and earning a huge pile of gold just to spend on gear it kind of..bleh. All in all. Great game, just needs something unique to grip people.
