About the Development Team
What They Don't Sea was created by Team Atlantis, a group of middle school girls, at the 3-week Girls Make Games summer camp in Durham, NC. The game won the Grand Prize at GMG’s Demo Day competition in 2019, and went on to raise over $40K on Kickstarter.

GMG’s flagship video game summer camp teaches girls ages 8-18 how to design and code their own games. The camps culminate in Demo Day, a national competition where the top teams from around the country pitch their games to industry professionals. The Grand Prize winning team receives extended mentorship and the opportunity to have their game professionally produced and published.

This is a cute little game and a great achievement for the team! Definitely worth the $5 especially for the cause. The messaging is great, the assets are clean and readable, and while the platforming could use some fine-tuning it's a great time. No bugs encountered, which is a feat in and of itself! What They Don't Sea is a fantastic little platforming game where you explore the oceans, record the fish you encounter, avoid natural hazards and unfriendly sea creatures, and remove trash from the ocean. The controls are very responsive, the graphics presented in a charming pixel art style, and the soundtrack is very well done (the music on Levels 3 and 5 are my personal favourites). The levels are also cleverly designed with a few puzzles and hidden secrets along the way. It took about an hour and half to complete the game, though there is some replayability as I did not find all the fish there are to discover, nor did I completely remove all the trash from the ocean. I loved the time I spent with What They Don't Sea. Team Atlantis should be incredibly proud of the game they have created! Steam Deck: Works flawlessly! Quaint, but fun lil metroidvania that tasks you recording marine life and cleaning up the ocean.
I supported this game via KickStarter. A fun game by young programmers. It's got a retro feel for those of us who remember 8 bit games.
Full disclosure - I was a kickstarter backer. An interesting little game, let down a little by somewhat floaty controls that might very well have been intentional. There's not a lot of combat; you use a stun gun to clear obstacles and drive away fish that want to hurt you. Scaling for some of the fish is all over the place, which works for a game but does somewhat surprise me. Not a bad little effort, and I think the team behind it has a bit of a future in the industry.
Great job Team Atlantis!! This is a huge achievement (and beautifully done game) by a talented team of teens. I happily backed it on Kickstarter and am so excited to see the finished product. It is a fun and casual platformer about cleaning the ocean and meeting its denizens.
