When Stars Collide is a science-fantasy adventure romance story.In the game, the player joins the crew of The Ophelia, a deep space exploration vessel as they uncover a trove of technology from a nearly forgotten species. Unaware that, among the items they unearth is an inhabited stasis pod, the crew recovers the found items but inadvertently awakens the occupant of the pod in the process.Upon awakening, Wil Nymera, a young interstellar wanderer, discovers they've been asleep for nearly 500 years. With nowhere else to go, Wil temporarily joins the crew after revealing they are Veleian, an ancient species known for their telepathy, advanced technology, and tendency to either guide younger races toward betterment - or else obliterate them.As Wil attempts to settle in and restart their life after a 500 year nap they did not intend to take, the crew of The Ophelia find themselves caught in a struggle between ancient powers and newer factions eager to get their hands on Veleia's tech and a centuries old secret buried in the depths of Wil's mind.

I have a solid 10+ hours on the itch.io version which I was playing on my laptop and then I realized I should check steam for a more portable version. I'm so happy I found it here! So good, the world's details are insane and I know I'm missing some stuff bc I'm so immersed in the plot lol. I've played Changeling and Gilded Shadows (still not done w GS, but loveee) and Esh always does an amazing job at making likable characters with various backgrounds and personalities. And this one is free??? 100% worth a try, the world may suck you in!

game so good i went and bought it on itchio after finishing all the routes because for all the playtime it's given me the dev deserves it literally all the LIs are so interesting and likeable, and given that the narrative doesn't diverge much until the final few chapters, i found myself really excited to see how they'd react to this event or that, or how certain scenes will play out. possibly the first time in a visual novel where i genuinely liked all the romance options and wanted to do all the routes from the get go. can't even pick a favourite (i lied i can it's kav but that's a special case) the worldbuilding is so interesting and done so organically, i immediately felt drawn into this world and wanted to learn more about all its intricacies. definitely one of the best vns i've ever played, especially in that regard (its only real competition is gilded shadows, and, well,) also in terms of gameplay it's got all the little qol stuff visual novels need to be easy and smooth to play, like quicksaves, fast-forwarding through seen dialogue, going back in the dialogue (a good amount too! as someone who tends to get too excited and fast forward skimming a bunch of stuff and then…

I'm in love with the whole crew, including the PC, and that's how it should be for things like this. If you enjoy the romantic (or found-family) trope of a guarded character being gradually coaxed to open up and let themselves be loved, you'll enjoy the routes in this. The romantic scenes (saucy or otherwise) really do it for me, too. 10/10
