About Windmills
In Windmills you play as the last Crimson Cape, a witch - hunter, on his quest to find his missing father. In this combat - focused metroidvania you will face dangerous monsters and devious wizards that will put your skills to the test. You will unlock new abilities that will help you traverse the world and you will absorb the powers of your enemies, allowing you to use them instead. The story unfolds in a unique way, based on the way you progress through the game. Depending on your actions, areas and enemies can change because the narrator will remember things differently, making each narrative unique. Because what is more important, if the windmills were giants or if the story was worth telling?

The combat system is based on suppressing, deflecting, dodging and parrying. As you progress through the story, more mechanics are unlocked, giving you more options for combat and exploration.
A big part of the mechanics are the reversals. Deflecting at the right time or parrying projectile spells, gives the player extraordinary abilities for a small amount of time. For example you can parry a lightning spell and charge your next attack with the element of lightning.
Master your skills and slay the monsters that ravage the kingdom. Challenge powerful and ruthless bosses that will put your abilities to the test.
Explore a magical world, meet NPCs with unique questlines, discover new abilities that will change your experience and help the last Crimson Cape remember the events that happened many years ago. Restore the magical portals that connect the different areas of the kingdom and see the story to its conclusion, through the eyes of an unreliable narrator.

Played Unbeliever a bit first, thought yes, enjoyable. Then along comes this on promotion and already has more charm and flair than many more expensive games. If you're a vet, this has it
bought it as a comparison piece to devs later work crimson capes. its a alot harder as you start with three health points. while i am not into that kind of gameplay i can see where later work improved.
Love the game, very good experience!
One of those games, you know the kind. The kind that you think would be cool. Looks good enough, seems smooth enough, has some decent effects, weird graphics, but still clean. And then you play.... after over a month... and you think "man... I should have started that game right after buying it, just so I can return it" And then you try anyway, and of course they deny your refund, as you would expect. Because, yeah, this game has been lying in my library for over a month now. I do realize that it is my own fault, but listen man, I was sold on a trailer that made it look like a smooth, fast, fun game. And I was sold something that I would describe as "clanky", "unresponsive" or maybe just "meh" And that's fine! Some of my favorite games ever are clanky "meh" games! But... this one is not. I beat it... I played more of it... about 4 times more than I ever wanted... And that is more than anyone ever should, but I felt like I should "finish" it. Whatever that's worth. Let's not talk about the fact that, apparently, I broke the flow of the game by beating one of the bosses too early, so I am locked out of an optional fight (not that I would want to do that, the bosses gotten worse an…
I have not yet finished the game but I put this message to the developers. You have made an amazing game that can be joyful to play at times but aggravating at others. To minimize this is firmly believe that you should have more checkpoint in the game as it is very punishing to go through all the room sections again just because you fail some parkour. I also believe you should let players change the action key needed for special moves like dash ect. If that is not possible I believe a better solution is to have the dash be inputted by pressing the jump button after attacking an enemy. Thank you for reading and I hope you take this into consideration. I now understand the button choice after farther incursions into the game. I redact that statemnet. Thank you.
This game is a solid 7/10 Combat is enjoyable, boss fights are fun, story gets the point across, save points are rare, finding where you are on a map is hard, crocodile enemy is total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, parkour sometimes gets hard but when you get the hang of it is really fun. My biggest issue would be rarity of the save points making back to back parkour/fights frustiating.
