About X-COM: Terror From the Deep

✦ AI summary

Lead X-COM's underwater defense against a new alien invasion force rising from Earth's oceans in this sequel to the original strategy classic. Command tactical battles across submerged bases and alien vessels while managing global resources to stop the aquatic threat before it's too late.

The war continues... X-COM: UFO Defense brought you to a galactic battlefield. X-COM: Terror from the Deep brings the alien terror into a totally new dimension.
Seeking to take advantage of a weakened Earth, X-COM's deep space foes unexpectedly change strategy and launch a powerful second front against planet Earth.
In the dark depths of vast oceans, long sleeping forces are awakened by reanimation signals sent out across the galactic silence by their interstellar brothers and sisters. Slowly but surely, an army of hibernating alien sea creatures awakens. Your combat now extends to the strange new worlds of the deep where superior alien technologies threaten the very survival of this planet - your planet - Earth.
  • Sequel to the hugely successful X-COM: UFO Defense
  • Actual undersea geoscape mapping system with rich topographic detail
  • Full array of undersea military technology
  • Rich graphics feature water coloration and wrecks
  • Multilevel tactical maps featuring both underseascapes and buildings
  • Alien encyclopedia features mutation technology and new watery denizens

I'm a big fan of the first X-Com UFO Defense, and even beat that game with a single soldier as a challenge. Terror from the Deep is so difficult it is tedious, even on the easiest difficulty. And the maps (especially terror missions) are HUGE. In the first game I could literally finish a map in 5-10 minutes, but it takes a couple hours of slogging through dozens of doors and corridors to finish the TFTD maps. I've tried a few times to play this and it is just too much micro-managing and punishment. If you like Dark Souls type of games, maybe you'll like this!

VERY IMPORTANT. Great game but only if you get the OpenXcom mod download. Amazing mod that optimises the game exceptionally well for modern systems. More importantly, it fixes a game breaking soft lock bug the original had, so only play if you get the mod.

Despite its age, still the best small squad tactics turn-based game EVER! The soundtrack adds up to a dark nightmarish scenario, tentaculats waiting around the corner...its just awesome!

The game is quite imaginative, interesting, and a good challenge for those who love strategy type games. The graphics, audio, and actual game play are captivating...holds your attention from start to finish. Awesome as a role playing game also, since you can re-name the characters. The outcome of each encounter appears quite random in nature, yet holds some aspects of predictability. In addition, the game serves as an excellent prelude to the X-Com series.
