About Senatus

Dominate the Roman Senate

Senatus is a strategy card game set in the heart of the Roman Republic. You aren't fighting with swords, but with rhetoric and political maneuvering. Every match is a high-stakes debate where you must sway the majority of the Senate to your side.

Master the Vote

The Senate floor is a 5x5 grid. Each card represents your political influence, featuring specific directions of attack and defense. When you place a card, its "influence arrows" can convert surrounding rival cards to your color, potentially triggering a chain reaction across the entire chamber.

Rise Through the Ranks

You begin as a common Senator. As you win debates, your Relevance grows. Moving up the ladder unlocks more than just prestige:
  • Aedile & Tribune: Gain access to bronze and silver cards.
  • Praetor: Unlock powerful gold cards.
  • Consul: Reach the supreme rank and command diamond-tier influence.
Be careful: political life is volatile. If your Relevance hits zero, your career ends in obscurity.

Explore the Eternal City

Between sessions, you have 15 days to prepare for the next vote. Walk through the Roman Forum, visit the Temple of Jupiter, or scout the Campus Martius to find new allies and stronger cards. You’ll always know the next debate topic in advance, so use your time to build a deck that counters your rivals' agendas.

I really wanted to like Senatus. Ancient Rome, rhetoric, political debate, cards and strategy are all things that interest me, so on paper this game should have been a very easy recommendation for me. The debate system is the strongest part. Placing cards, looking at attack directions and trying to create chains can be fun, and I think there is a good idea at the centre of the game. My problem is everything around it. Too much of the deckbuilding depends on random rolls. You can learn where certain card colours are available, but you still have very little control over which useful cards you actually get. If you need one colour for several debates, preparation can quickly turn into visiting the same place again and again, rolling, collecting a card and hoping for something good. The frustrating part is that this did not only bother me when I had bad luck. I also had periods where I rolled well, collected strong Gold and Diamond cards and won debates quite easily. It still did not feel very rewarding, because I did not feel that I had built that strength through enough meaningful choices. There are several systems here that could be much more interesting: Prestige, character d…

This is a fun little game reminiscent of the card games of the Final Fantasy series. Instead of collecting creature cards, though, you're winning Senators to your cause and enticing them to speak on your behalf on the debate stage. Cards apply minor buffs to you or nerfs to your opponent and can be chained together. In between debates, you take your chances in various locations to acquire cards and buffs for the next debate. The mechanics are simple to understand but by no means an auto-win once you understand the strategy. I love the music, and the pixel art is quite charming. Enjoy! : )

Quick fun little game. It certainly needs a better tutorial, but the devs have been very quick to fix bugs and are responsive so this has a bright future!

Shallow and repetitive. I didn't feel like I was playing a character with an identity or had any political ideology. Roman politics barely played into it, which was a shame as a roman history buff

Game is fun. The walking around was a bit confusing, but it is necessary to learn where what kind of senators there are at specific spots. I found the game a bit easy once you figure things out. And thus a bit short: but it is only 5€ Cheaper than a cinemeticket!
