Before Your Eyes is a first person narrative adventure which tells the story of a soul’s journey into the afterlife using a new and innovative form of interaction—your real-life blinks.
The story begins after your death, aboard the ship of a mythical Ferryman tasked with shepherding souls to the afterlife. In order to help you pass on, he must first learn the story of your life. And so, he sends you back to relive your most important moments.
The game uses your webcam to immerse you in this story in a way you've never experienced before. You will learn to control the flow of the narrative with your actual eyes–blinking through precious memories of family, first love, and the rise of an artistic career. But soon the Ferryman will suspect you aren't showing him everything he needs to see. So he will force you deeper into the dark recesses of your most repressed memories, ultimately revealing a heartbreaking truth.
By combining its innovative blink interaction mechanic with a charming world and a fully voice-acted story, Before Your Eyes is a deeply emotional and relatable journey—one about the impossible expectations we place on ourselves and the regrets we carry with us.
An earlier version of the game, titled Close Your, received the Game Developers Choice award at Indiecade and the Student Award at the Independent Game Awards (IGF), before receiving funding through a successful Kickstarter campaign.

This game didn't make me cry like most people but I can 100% see the appeal and the following this game receives. It's very nice, short, and sweet. It's a beautiful tale about life and just makes you think about the life you have lived through until now. Would I recommend this to a person? 100%; would I actively try to make people play this game however? maybe. I think this game is best experienced when you don't know what to do in life or have a really hard time in life. Like most impactful games, you have to play the game at the right place and the right time to experience this game to the fullest. I think I personally played this game when I wasn't at that point in life; but if you feel like your having a hard time in life. (Whether it be from depression, a sickness, or nearing the final chapter of your life) Please play this game, you will receive so much more when you are in a point in time where you struggle with death, connections, and time. Now sit back, get some tissues ready, and a drink. Cuz you might be crying the last 10 minutes of the game
Truly a beautiful game and the twist was heartbreaking but in a way awakening. It opens yours eyes to what you have and how you really need to appreciate what you have before it's lost to time. It really tackles a sense of despair but acceptance really well and it was a heart-wrenching and warming story to play. I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone.
It's a short, beautiful, emotional, game that will, at the very least, leave you with tears in your eyes. It was a pleasure to finally be playing this game after seeing YouTubers play it years ago. I decided today would be the day I finally played it, having forgotten most of what exactly happened, and seeing countless recommendations all over social media. But I don't know if I could even accurately describe how I feel about this game. It has certainly left an impact on me, and I hope that, if you end up playing it as well, it will do the same for you.
It was such a beautiful game.
The depiction of death sent me over the edge. One of the best.
