I'm sure this dev meant well and didn't have any kind of malintent when making this, but when I see people praising this game to no end as some super deep and moving thing, I think of that Family Guy clip where Lois just says "9/11 was bad" and the audience cheers. This game isn't saying anything we haven't heard a hundred times before. Its literally just "child abuse is bad", but pretends like what it's saying is some kind of earth-shattering commentary. The only reason I can give to play this is to learn how NOT to write a message into a game. Its so preachy and pretentious that it has a whole wall of text at the end basically explaining the point to you. This game sucks. also i was abused as a kid too so any of the game's defenders can't use the "youre just an insensitive prick that doesn't know what its like!" defence on me :3

Recommended? Yes... somehow. I kept waiting for the monster to show up. Turns out, the monster was the truth. My Eyes Deceive isn't scary because something is chasing you. It's scary because it slowly strips away your hope that there's a rational explanation for what you're seeing. Every revelation sinks deeper than the last, until you're staring at the screen wondering how a story managed to make you feel physically sick. The horror isn't supernatural. It's human. The moment the game reveals what's really happening, I genuinely had to stop for a minute. Few horror games manage to replace fear with disgust so effectively, and somehow that's even worse. There are no cheap tricks here - just a slow descent into something rotten enough to stay in your head long after the credits roll. I finished the game. I wish I could uninstall the memory. 10/10. My eyes recovered. My brain didn't.

My Eyes Deceive looks like a straightforward indie horror game on the surface but it completely pulls the rug out from under you with a narrative that hits much closer to home than any monster ever could. You play as a young girl trapped inside a bunker, locked into a suffocating daily routine of taking your "preventative pills," doing chores and waiting for your father to visit from the toxic, disease-ridden wasteland outside. The game does an incredible job of building psychological dread through subtle environmental clues, your character's sheer exhaustion and deeply unsettling dream sequences. You go in expecting a traditional spooky experience meant to give you a few scares but the truth you uncover takes the story down a profoundly dark and twisted path. It doesn't rely on cheap monsters or jump scares; instead, it deals with a sickening reality of abuse, isolation and control that leaves you staring at the screen long after the credits roll. It’s a brilliant psychological trip but it makes me genuinely sick to my stomach thinking about how things just like this actually happen to real people somewhere in the world.
