ICEY

Despite being several years old, ICEY still feels surprisingly relevant. Playing it in 2026, I can confidently say it's a really good experience. The most original aspect of the game is, without a doubt, its fourth-wall breaking. The narrator constantly comments on what you're doing, and some of the best moments come from deliberately disobeying his instructions and getting scolded for it. That's easily the game's strongest feature. The combat mechanics are solid without exactly blowing anyone's mind. Enemy design is decent, but the real highlights are the adrenaline-pumping combat, the music, and the art style. Those are easily the best aspects of the game. The difficulty is moderate, and the game even lets you choose your preferred experience through a few questions at the beginning, making it quite accessible. The story, on the other hand, is pretty standard. Don't expect anything groundbreaking here, as the narrative isn't really what makes ICEY stand out. It's also a relatively short game, which works in its favor. Wanted to like it, but a lot of the combat was janky and the later bosses with lasers would just ride you for damage. Game is short, like 2.5 hours. Game doesn't feel challenging, just cheap to the player.

Fun meta-game with some weirdly deep lore. I will not go too deep into spoiling how "meta" it is, but I think it's more fun if you don't take this game too seriously. Some of the meta scenarios are quite goofy and strange. The game itself is nice, the visuals, art and music are alright, and the fighting has some cool mechanics and animations. You can also buy upgrades to get stronger moves. But overall, there's nothing too out of the ordinary, besides the meta-story. The voice acting might be good, but sometimes he sounds too much like an "announcer" instead of a "narrator". The translations sometimes are a bit odd too, but still enough for you to understand everything. At some parts, the pacing isn't all that great, since you can zoom through some rooms and cut the dialogue, while in some other rooms you have to wait for ages for the dialogue to finish. The dialogue is a big part of the game, so I don't think it's a big problem to wait for it, but still, it's sort of strange how some areas allow you to skip it so easily, and others drag it out for so long. Loved the game. It gives me a lot of Nier Automata Vibes, mixed with Stanley's Parable, as weird as this combination sounds. And the gameplay is amazing, very fast moving combat. Very important tip: Get 100% achievements in this game even if you usually don't care about thropy hunting! Trust me. Go in blind, explore as much as you're enjoying, then get a achievements guide and 100% the game.

This isn't a game meant to give us a hard time; it's the most hilarious game I've ever played (it's the first time I've seen achievements that are absolutely side-splitting).
