PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC

This is another modern unity remake of an old classic platformer. Like all of these the original art style was ruined for pixar-style characters over unity asset store environments, and for whatever reason the cutscenes in this look WORSE than the original from 1999 (then again, what doesn't look worse than 1999 these days?). Also like all of these the physics, momentum, jump arc, animations, general feel etc. have gone from a tight, handcrafted experience to feeling like every other unity game I have ever played. Everything is super floaty before you fall like a rock. This trivializes all the normal platforming as you are in the air for longer and so you can cheese most normal jumps, but the original has precision platforming sections that are absurdly difficult here because the level design was not made to account for the new jumping arc and timing. Some input lag and platform sloppiness that also makes certain "flow states" the original game design expertly allowed for to just not work here. Instead of the original "sonic the hedgehog but in 3d" tightness that encouraged you to let loose and bs your way through the levels like you could in any genesis sonic title, this on…

It's a pretty good platformer for it's price on sale. It's not Mario 64, but it's not trying to be either. It's not very challenging, which is perfect for some casual gaming. Perfect for Steam Deck
