Grand Ages: Medieval

This is an ancient, 11 year old game from Kalypso with a slew of problems that will never be fixed. Taking the promising concept of a cheap, dumbed down ripoff of Total War: Medieval, Kalypso gave up on this 9 years and 6 months ago, despite knowing there's balance problems and other issues with the game. But they're still trying to get paid for this without doing any work on it. The game has some defects around a weak end game, so this isn't one of those games that works well when you build a huge empire, it just gets tedious. On the upside, the game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers. Due to the age of this game, and the lack of modernisation, the graphics appear quite dated. This compares poorly to more contemporary games with professional standards. Given that gaming is primarily a visual medium, this is a bit of a problem, so should be taken into account when considering whether to get this game. This is a solid game, which I still come back to. Great economy and empire expansion playability. Would love if more games leaned into those features.

Great game!!

I’ve seen a lot of split reviews about this game, and I don’t think the game is as simple as most people describe. Personally, I enjoy the game. It’s a game I’ve come back to quite a few times and always enjoy it when I do play. I’ve seen a lot of people say it’s repetitive with the system of building new cities and trading and repeating a few times. But I don’t think most of the people who play give it enough time to progress your empire and build things like an army or your skill tree, build towns bigger with more fortifications, build better roads, defence towers, and go to war and take over other cities. The game is hard at first, and I understand that. I found it challenging to make money at first, and I would want to upgrade a town to its full potential too quickly, which drained the money too quickly. You have to go slow, understand, and tactically build towns with certain resources and products to increase your money flow. Every option for your town and army has a use, and to know that, you’ll need to read and play with these tools to help yourself.
