About Undercity

✦ AI summary

Rush through underground tunnels at breakneck speed on a jet-powered board, dodging obstacles across 26 hand-crafted and procedural levels while mastering physics-based controls that shift dramatically with every angle. Unlock game-changing power upgrades that fundamentally alter your movement mechanics, forcing you to constantly rethink your strategy in this solo-developed action experience.

Undercity is a challenging action game about rushing through tunnels on a jet-powered board at high speed. Dodge whatever comes your way and unlock new powers as you progress.

All the design, programming, art and music was created by a single developer over the last year and a half.

Breathtaking Speed

Experience the thrill of dodging and weaving your way through an underground network of tunnels in this challengingly fast action game. The core physics of the tunnel means that each angle you find yourself at is vastly different, making it necessary to plan your path ahead carefully. And quickly.

An Endless Runner With An End

You won't just play through one level over and over again to get a higher score. Progress through 26 varied levels offering a meaningful set of challenges--both procedural and hand-crafted--that incrementally test your skills and understanding. Master the fluid controls as you travel through five unique environments, each with its own energetic soundtrack.

Change Yourself

Gain upgrades via a skill tree that are not just simple statistical boosts, but fundamentally change the way you move around the tunnel. Varied interplay between the skills make you constantly rethink your strategy, while still retaining the pure action game at Undercity's heart.

Disclaimer: A key of this was supplied from the developers however this does not change my opinion of the game. Undercity is a game that tests your reaction time and natural timing. By my findings, the developers aren't that interactive with the community which could be a dangerous thing to the health of the game, especially when the game has been out since September and no patch notes or anything has been pushed since then.
Graphics
The graphics are highly detailed and amazingly designed. There's enough options to alter the performance of the game and the game is highly optimised. The graphics are very pretty and the effects are amazing. Also, unrelated to graphics, the music is awesome and gives you a rhythm you just want to hum or move to. It's really cool overall with graphics and audio!!!
Gameplay and Content
The main aim of the game is to pass all levels. It offers 40 upgrades which could impact your speed, your boost, your jumping and even includes ducking to avoid head-level obstacles. Each level contains obstacles above, to the side, through the middle and almost anywhere and everywhere it can catch you. Ways to avoid them become avaliable as y…

Always wanted a game like this. Between riding a skateboard in Archeage, or playing the steam Tron Runner. I always felt excitement in those simple types of games. While this doesn't gravatitate to the tron runner, it does give a new way riding. Maybe add a ice mine, so you slide, or a few hills. Good game though. I am glad my money wentto support the dev.

It feels a bit on the brutally challenging side of things. Thing is, the upgrade system kind of sucks. I put upgrades into the wrong things, and couldn't finish enough levels to actually proceed to any more levels(because I couldn't finish the ones at my disposal). Music is nice though.

It's a puzzle game that's more annoying than it is challenging - the levels are uninspired and repetitive, and the "challenge" in playing this game is more about slogging through tedious level designs that are simple once you get the hang of the controls, but they are long and boring. It makes completing a level more of a chore than a genuinely fun challenge. Eventually you reach a point in a level where it can be difficult to avoid hitting an obstacle, but it comes after you've mastered some of the easier parts of the level; so you end up wasting time on what feels like a trivial task just to get to the challenging part that you have yet to learn the ins-and-outs of, which leads to wiping out and starting over with the tedious stretch. The obstacles put in your way felt like they were always evenly spaced and just copied-and-pasted along the stretch of track you skate on, which basically amounts to pressing the same keys in an alternating pattern - left-right, left-right, left-right, duck-jump, duck-jump, jump-jump-duck, jump-jump-duck... etc. This game looked promising, but it was ultimately disappointing.
