Hypnocult

Hypnocult is a game heavily based on reaction time and reading... or is it? See Gameplay wise the game sets itself up similarly to those like super hexagon or various aim trainers, its reaction heavy and the swapping mechanic the game has adds complexity, the initial playthrough of stages i wasn't overly sold on the mechanics and then the big bombshell of needing to do them at 1.5x speed or even 2x speed for some of them is simply outrageous and i'd go as far as to say, flat out impossible for some people and initially me. There's one flaw this game has, one huge oversight which throws the clever concept cooked up down the drain, and that's the fact you HAVE to tap the keys to move yourself to collect the lines, super hexagon you can hold and for good reason, in this game i did not have the hand dexterity to tap that fast when the time between lines can easily be under 0.4ms, let alone the other hand needing to do line swaps. sadly though if it were a hold button the game's concept wouldn't work either and so i think the game is just fundamentally flawed to begin with, despite seeming to be unique and original. Super Polygon, hard AF

this game is absolutely electric, such a perfect marriage of twitchy reflexes and dastardly puzzling on the fly. I crave games like this that reinvent the way your brain works and actively search for new paradigms of play

Simple and compelling.

In terms of raw gimmickiness and presentation, this is a very high quality reflex game for the genre fans out there, and a very clever spin on the formula at that! From gameplay footage the game looks like a mess - and rightfully so, because it IS a mess, yet a very fun one. Core idea of the game is you're navigating a polygon, and you can swap 'string' positions where you're standing. You need to swap the strings to catch the falling lines, as they're only collectable if they fall flat on the side. If you don't catch a falling line, you game over. Even describing it is somewhat a mess, although it's something you get the hang of quick. But the idea that it is a mess is the selling point for me. Sounds strange, but the fun of the game is trying to wrap your head round the mess to know what's coming next, as well as discerning what strings to swap, in which order, and then where to collect the next line. It's overall a great mixture where you're not just reading, but multitasking to make it as easy as possible on you.
