About Zomborg

✦ AI summary

Zomborg is a tactical zombie shooter where you lead a squad of mercenaries into deadly quarantine zones to retrieve research data and uncover the source of a devastating pandemic. Battle hordes of up to 100 zombies simultaneously while customizing your character, selecting your AI teammates, and upgrading from a arsenal of 10 weapon types to match your combat strategy.

It is the year 2000, and the United Nations has established several quarantine zones around the world to stem the tide of an unknown virus pandemic. They are successful, but at a great cost.

Shortly after the containment rumor began to spread, there were tales of survivors trapped inside the quarantine zones, and of the cause of the virus, with footage of reanimated infected corpses roaming the street. Still, no solid evidence could be found.

In order to find the cure and the origin of this infection, the United Nations deployed dozens of military, medical, and scientific teams into the quarantine zones.

During the mission, one of the medical teams found a very important clue in the blood sample from dead livestock in the quarantine zone, along with several images of infected corpses in the area.

But before the team could evacuate, their outpost was attacked and overrun by thousands of infected corpses. The whole medical staff and their security team were killed, leaving all the samples and research data behind.

Not intending to send another team to meet the same fate, the United Nations called upon a private military company, highly skilled mercenaries to retrieve the data and uncover the secret of the zone where no one had ever come back to tell the tale.

✦ AI summary

Zomborg has decent graphics and can be enjoyable as a casual, light-hearted experience, but players consistently report significant frustration with its core mechanics: the aiming system is imprecise and rage-inducing, the reticle is hard to see with no customization options, enemy damage is punishing with limited healing, and various design quirks like full shotgun reloads and inability to swap weapons while reloading create unnecessary friction. Most players would not recommend it, though a few found it acceptable as a free or casual diversion.

The gameplay is okay and the graphics are decent, but the absolute game breaker is the horrible aiming system. It genuinely induces rage. It's not even a skill issue you need the stars to align just to get a clean shot at a robot standing on top of a container. Half the time, your character just keeps shooting the damn container instead. Aiming shouldn't be the hardest boss in the game. Would not recommend.

Getting shot by robot enemies outside my field of view. It takes them two hits to kill me. There's only one medkit per level and it heals almost nothing. I keep losing my reticle because for some reason they thought a very light orange was the best color for it. During the night its fine but during the day its impossible to see. No options to change it. No option to lower the sensitivity on the camera. Weapons have different stats but they all seem to do to take the same amount of shots to kill enemies. Shotguns reload all 8 shells regardless if you shot once or three times. At the end of the shotgun reload there's for some reason a magazine unload/reload sound (A SPAS-12 does NOT have a magazine last I checked...) Cannot swap weapons while reloading. I feel like it could be a fun game, but there are just so many issues unfortunately.
