State of Decay: YOSE

State of decay is the only game that feels like you are play the walking dead series.NOT COMIC BOOK cause telltales does that but the series.

GOOD

This is a fun zombie game with a mildly interesting angle on the genre. The melee combat is satisfying and responsive, with finishers and impactful feeling weapons. The gunplay leaves something to be desired, with really large crosshairs that block your vision, inventory-inefficient ammo, "consumable" suppressors that last 10-30 shots, and long reload times. It's very of-the-era, making itself obviously of the early 2010s when gaming was beginning to hit the mainstream, and people still refining their views on the hobby. State of Decay 2 is a pretty big step up in game feel and pacing, and I'd recommend that over this one any day (especially since SoD2 has a vastly superior mod catalog on the nexus). That said, this game is definitely worth playing on its own, outside of other factors. Seems to have performance issues, and the constant barrage of optional quests throwing you off is a little draining, but those are something I'd consider minor in this case.

I'm sure this was a fun experience in 2013 with Xbox Live Arcade, but jumping into this in 2026... there's not much to it, is there? An infinite loop of "drive somewhere, kill zombies, search a house, bring stuff to home base, build/upgrade something, drive somewhere else, search houses, kill zombies..." without any meaningful story. Held my attention for just 4 hours.
