The Pale Beyond is a narrative-driven survival management game where you lead an ill-fated polar expedition across a treacherous frozen wasteland, making critical decisions about resource management, crew morale, and safety as you search for answers about a lost ship. Every choice meaningfully shapes your story and crew dynamics, forcing you to balance keeping your team fed and warm against the constant threat of mutiny in one of nature's most unforgiving environments.
A polar exploration game set in an unforgiving frozen wasteland where you embark on a treacherous voyage across the ice and through the Pale Beyond. It’s a stunning yet harsh landscape that can change at any moment.
Every decision matters and the ice doesn’t care.
As the expedition unfolds and the Polar Winter approaches, every decision you make will have a meaningful impact on the story as you navigate your way across the ice.
You didn’t ask to lead this expedition, but here you are. Stuck in the ice, Captain missing, miles from civilisation. Someone has to take charge.
Manage your meagre resources, balance safety and morale, make the hard calls, and head in the only direction you can - through The Pale Beyond.
Keeping the crew (and sled dogs) safe, fed, and warm during the expedition is imperative. Surviving the ice will matter little in the face of a mutiny. Every vote will count. So keep the crew on your side.

A fun graphic novel / choose your own adventure / light management sim. I saw most of what I needed to, and got a result for all the major characters I was happy with on the first playthrough, but it was a very enjoyable 7 hours.1 found this helpful
So cool. Artwork is great, gameplay is fun and stressful, in a good way.
An incredible game, bought it on sale on a whim as I thought the art was cool. Never thought I'd fall in love with the game, the art style and the crew. Would recommend to anyone who love incredible characters, a harrowing story which can genuinely change in massive ways from your decisions and art and scenes you can't help but screen shot.
This game rules! I found it during a sale, I've never heard about it before, aand I have to admit, people should be taalking more about this one! If you like games like Roadwarden and Sunless Skies, I throughouly reccomend this one
There has become such a plethora of options to pick from for video games that it can be hard to stand out, feel unique, or even look like something you should spend your time on. Narrative games always seem to fly under the radar, yet, time and again, they're filled with such depth and warmth. The Pale Beyond is likely now one of my new favorite games. Simple mechanics, with gorgeous artwork and breath taking scores, allow you to focus on the story. Every choice matters in a way I don't think I've ever experienced. It is at its core a survival game, but unlike most modern versions, it reminds me of The Oregon Trail. The main premise for both is that you have to manage your resources to get the characters to their goal. That is where I'd end my comparison of the two. The time love and dedication I could feel from every aspect of this game is why it is one of my new favorites. From taking the time to hand draw all of these element while also weaving in so many real world experiences. Phenomenal! One comment I saw in the community page was that this pregnant woman was mad at the developers for making her cry this much. Now I am a sap tree, I cry at everything so that is my baseline…
