Reminds me of games I used to play as a kid on sites like Armor Games. Simple upgrading, fast and easy to get into. The characters are cute. I liked it :)

A fun couple of hours, although for most people this is definitely a "wait for sale" pick. It technically has roguelite elements with the pick-3 upgrade system after each stage, but in practice the feel of playing the game is very different because rather than jockeying for a "god build" or whatever, it's mostly resource management. The upgrades cost money and you can only pick one per round, and so you're balancing increasing your stats with replacing your guns before they break down, hiring or upgrading allies to fight with you, or buying single-use tools like barricades or air strikes. The gameplay isn't particularly difficult, but sometimes you can get caught with your pants down if you have a weapon that's really bad for the stage you're on. The shooting is mostly a "popping-bubble-wrap" kind of experience. It's fun, but isn't overly engaging if you've ever played a 2D game where you shoot things by aiming at them. There's a few extra hours on offer if you end up liking it enough to go for all of the endings or give the challenge mode a shot.
