This is rdein, creator of the Momodora series. Recently my team and I have announced the latest installment in the series, “Moonlit Farewell”. This is a concluding story, following through from the events of Momodora 3. With this new tale, I also intend to close the book on many of the past games’ mysteries and questions.
I’m aware that many players are more familiar with the story of Kaho, which is set in a distant past. As such, I’m designing “Moonlit Farewell” to be as enjoyable as possible without prior knowledge of Momodora 1 to 3’s stories. Moreover, the series has always been focused on action and minimal stories. So please, don’t worry too much about “catching up”!
Lastly, we hope to bring you our best game with this new title, using all the knowledge we’ve learned in the past 10 years. Please look forward to it!
Story:

Momodora: Moonlight Farewell is a metroidvania game focused on close melee combat and exploration as the story of bells and moon gods gone wild surrounds our leafy protagonist, Momo. This is the final game of the Momodora series so does it go out on a strong footing? [Presentation: 10] Visuals: 3 There’s some nice pixel sprites and art here. Animations looks good. The areas themselves have a fine color palette but some areas can appear a bit samey making some areas hard to remember. Some foreground elements in a few areas can obstruct the view, especially of drops or small enemies. Late game areas use a lot darkness to obscure the visuals and I’m not a fan of that in action games like this. Audio: 4 The sound FX are pretty basic throughout but well used. Attacks and hits sound punchy and there’s this 16 bit sound feel to most elements. The music has some atmospheric tones of the areas and the boss music is honestly pretty solid. Voice Over: N/A Oddly, there was one voice clip in the game but as it was so brief, I’m counting it as a sound FX so nothing of note here. UI: 3 The game UI is fine overall. It’s a bit too muted in some places, such as the main menu screen. Th…
Metroidvania gold standard. Great sprite animation, pretty decent story, and not too much backtracking to annoy you. What more can one ask for? This game is the continuation of the already great track record the previous games had already established. The music gives a very relaxed and cerebral effect to the overall experience. One can ask for nothing more with this game. More people should definitely know about this gem.
