Tactical Annihilation

This is an excellent turn-based strategy game that plays with an RTS-style economy and base-building system. There is a lot of content, with a long campaign, challenge maps, AI skirmishes, and player-made maps. The AI is challenging, and the variety of units and base-building strategies feels endless. Anyone who enjoys Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander, and Advance Wars-style games will feel right at home. Personally, I really enjoy Zero-K and Panzer Corps 2, and this game scratches that same itch. I have also played it on the Steam Deck, where it runs really well, and I can see it becoming one of my main games for the Deck. It is a hidden gem and deserves to become very popular once it is discovered by more gamers.

Best game in a long time!

It's a turn-based approach to an RTS game structure - the most similar experience I've had would be with the WH40K game Gladius (without the factional variations) as I've described that to friends as a turn-based RTS too. The focus is on base building and combat tactics, and in that it borrows heavily from Total Annihilation and its descendants. IMO, it works. The super units feel super. Bases can go up quickly and expand quickly. The additions of unit multi-select and assisted movement are useful and keep things from grinding to a halt later in games where you have so many units to manage. I especially appreciate being able to click directly onto the units in the "This unit has actions left" dialog instead of having to hunt them down. I think there may be room for expanding the automation in this area, but it's a strong start. I've only seen a bit of the commander abilities so far, so I don't know if they become true game changers later on. So far, I'm not sure if they'll provide enough differentiation match to match for the long haul. An amazing gem. I really like Advance Wars, and so do the devs if I had to guess. Compared to AW, it adds better balance, base building, and multiple ways to break a stalemate. There's a few bugs still but devs are very responsive. Not demanding even on huge maps. I played 19 hours of campaign, but there's also lots of secondary stages and skyrmish maps. The land units are varied. You can build defenses and economy building, which are balanced with diminishing returns to prevent full turtling. Sea and air units are way more useable than in AW because they're not prohibitive. Ammo and fuel are replaced with a reload system for some of the most powerful single shot units, letting them move but not attack for a turn in between attacks. CO's are set with two powers which you unlock with a bit of playing. And a wildcard slot for a third power taken from anyone else. It's good build brewing. CO's are unlocked naturally through the campaign and linked secondary stages, but you can cheat-, I mean skyrmish your way through the unlock process. Oh, and there are giant huge amazing big late game units. Friendship ended with Megatank, Mega Assault Tank is my new best friend.

love the base building and the mega units are a lot of fun only complaint is the small size of the maps

The idea of this game is something I fallen in love with. Computer player is competent, CO powers are powerful, but not opressive in larger scale. Campaign missions are fun and wonderfully introduce new units to play with. Balancing is fine, every unit is useful throughout the game (maybe lower tier artillery falls off a bit). Still needs a bit of QoL additions and a little bit of polish, managing larger battefields lategame is still a bit tedious. Overall this game is absolutely fun and could rise out of graveyard of Advance Wars type games. Hope the devs add multiplayer soon.
