TerraScape

Chill puzzle game. I returned after this sat in my library for a year+. All my previous progress was lost. Lost a save from today, terrible UI. Needs improvement before I can recommend

This is a really fun little puzzle/town builder. Simple, easy to learn and fun. The art style is bright and delightful. Though a larger map can cause the game to become a bit drawn out and repetitive, the scenarios are fun, brief and let you explore the various elements of the game. A few more building combinations would be great but what is here now can, when the cards finally fall for you, cause great groans of satisfaction as the buildings upgrade.

This is actually a very interesting evolution on relaxing city-builders. There's a strange balance between the simplicity of the game mechanic and the complexity of various possibilities. The core mechanic is similar to hexagonal tile settlers, like Dorfromantic, where you get randomized cards and play the cards to add structures to various available tiles. But Terrascape goes even further, both in terms of giving you a wider range of choices in what kind of card subsets your random cards come from, and also what happens when you put those structures down. So while it is still relaxing in its own way, it requires you to be a bit more attentive and strategize your gameplay. In case you don't feel like strategizing, scoring is actually easy, you can just casually populate your maps and still finish the scenarios. Of course there are more challenging scenarios and puzzles if strategy is what you're going after. Of course, the game does not provide an extensive explanation of everything, but rather relies on the player to dig around and discover what all is possible, the clues to which is all there in the game UI in front of you. Amazingly relaxing, satisfying, and visually pleasing. For anyone that just want to unwind in the more simpler creative modes or challenge yourself with the puzzle maps, there is something for both camps.
