About Dorfromantik

✦ AI summary

Place tiles one by one to build idyllic villages and landscapes, completing quests to unlock new areas and expand your world. It's a uniquely relaxing puzzle-strategy game where careful planning rewards you with high scores, all wrapped in charming hand-painted art with endless replayability.

Dorfromantik is a relaxing building strategy and puzzle game in which you place tiles to create ever-growing, idyllic village landscapes. With Dorfromantik, you can immerse yourself in a quiet, peaceful world at any time and take a break from everyday life. At the same time, Dorfromantik offers a challenge for those who are looking for one: To beat the highscore, you need to carefully plan and strategically place your tiles.

In Dorfromantik you start with a stack of procedurally generated tiles. One after the other, you draw the top tile of the stack, place it on one available slot and rotate for the best fit. Thereby groups and combinations of landscapes are formed, such as forests, villages or water bodies, and you are rewarded with points depending on how well the tile fits.

On some tiles you will also encounter special objects that give you a quest: For example, the windmill wants to border 6 grain fields, the locomotive wants to be connected to 10 tracks or the deer wants to inhabit a forest with at least 50 trees. Fulfill these quests to get more tiles to continue the expansion of your landscape. The game ends when the tile stack is used up.

As you expand the landscape, you can advance into new, colorful biomes and discover pre-placed game objects that give you long-term tasks. Through these tasks you can unlock new tiles, new biomes and new quests.

In trying to be challenging, the game's central tile generation algorithm is mostly just obnoxious. It spams the same piece you don't need, consistently prevents you from both completing tile quests and closing them out, and in general subverts all of the things about this game that would otherwise make it relaxing and enjoyable. It is an aesthetically pleasing game and the idea is great, but the number of times I've found peace and calm playing this game (it does happen) pales in comparison to the number of times I've rage-quit in utter frustration at the absurdity of useless pieces being generated one after another. If you're looking for a relaxing puzzle game, you may want to look elsewhere. After too many hours chasing the promise of calmness this game seemed to offer, my increased high blood pressure can confirm that promise as broken.

This game has the vibe of sitting under an oak tree with a little board on your lap while your fingers drum your chin. Where shall I place you, my mischievous little waterhole? Oh, a forest — and what's that, a sneaky wheatfield on your side? Naughty, naughty. I know just what to do with you. The day whiles away, soft click after soft click of wood meeting board as you place each piece with exquisite care, marvelling at your tiny choo-choo trains and little deer. That's how this game feels. 10/10.

What an amazing cozy experience. I would describe this as a zen self care practice, disguised as a video-game.

A nice, chill, peaceful game, with wonderful music and even cute animals! Haven't made it far into all the different achievements, but I am hoping to find birds and chipmunks!
