What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise the game's deep strategic and tactical gameplay with rich detail in conquest, geopolitics, and faction interactions, along with its engaging battles and mod support that keeps it fresh. Common complaints center on its age showing through outdated UI mechanics, unintuitive controls compared to newer Total War titles, and camera/navigation frustrations that require workarounds. Some also note the focus on Western Europe at the expense of other factions and wish for shorter time-scale options.
this game is the greatest game. play it. i have this downloaded from cd to work on steam to bypass old launchers. if it logged the hours played on the 3 prevous pc's it be thousands of hours played 10/10

I really enjoy the detail available in many aspects of a game that takes in both strategic and tactical aspects of a game of conquest, without neglecting geopolitical, religious and philosophical aspects of interaction necessary to a factions advancement. I do wish it had a short term version in which all aspects of the game moved together and a turn represented a single season rather than two years. I also wish it did not focus so much on Christian Western Europe, and had more characters, ancillaries and traits specific to the Moslem, Greek, or Russian orthodox factions. Can't wait to see what TW Medieval III will look like!
well, trailer looks good here doesnt it and people playing it well as well. I installed M2EX patch and DaC mod ran really well, really awesome. But the game is so old and coming from newer total wars after atilla – backtracking, you just get used to handling so many informations thrown at you that when you get into medieval 2 you brain starts to rot from incapability of reading units and field, like what's going on? you have to click on units to see their "moral" and other stats individually. pressing unit's ability makes no apprent sense like in newer series'. you get stuck and cannot move thorugh a building via camera, you need to around it, this makes little sense to me. Controls for keyboard - i assume anyone who had adjusted to newer titles will have to remap their keyboard layout, well it's only possible within main menu and not in game. i wish i could pretend that doesn't bother me at all, especially since i've put in less than 2 hours, but i don't think i can cope with the fact there are so many missing things that were smart to put inside the game later on. we all agree M2 has some of the good perks that were removed in much later games, but that simply doesnt ou…
