Eastern Exorcist

Eastern Exorcist, which involves Eastern-mythology-inspired small stories under the umbrella of two main stories and two main characters, with overlapping events between them, which was great, is a surprisingly interesting and fun game with flowing, sometimes cruel, and low-budget cutscenes that are, most importantly, meaningful and moving despite their technical constraints. The most fascinating thing about this game is that you play as two characters with different abilities, storylines, and events, but at the same time they overlap and can be both considered a prequel/sequel to the other. The gameplay is a pretty standard "go to the right" side-scroller, this is not a Metroidvania. The combat is fine: a single weapon but with equipable items, combos and different skills. What really makes this game memorable and enjoyable is the stories told in it, how the events unfold, and the cutscenes that highlight the final missing piece of the puzzle explaining how and what happened to our hero and heroine and to the people they care about and those they meet across their travels. Having a loading screen every 10 seconds just ain't going to cut it

This is a 7 out of 10 game, it's good, but it could have been great. If you have played a fair share of Chinese indie games like me, you won't be surprised by knowing that it commits the same crime too many do as it implements too many mechanics and these end up breaking the balance hence the fun. For a rather short game, there is a crazy amount of items, skills, and upgrades, and these end up breaking the balance halfway very severely unfortunately. Some of the negative reviews also complain that due to all these skills, there are too many tutorials to learn them, and that's also true. So, I thought this game looked like a nice challenge so I started playing at hard, and it was indeed quite hard until about 1/3 of the game. I couldn't beat some bosses unless I learned all their attack patterns so I was really enjoying it. At some point however, before the half of the game, due to obtaining too many power ups (maybe my build was particularly powerful, you might have a different experience), the game became really easy and I barely died at the bosses (you rarely die with the other enemies really). Bro Idk how ppl are even playing this game, game starts out in wrong resolution, go to video options and click arrows to change it, THEY DONT WORK. Fine I'll just start the game at the wrong reso oh well. immediately in the tutorial the 3rd button they try to teach me isn't even bound by default. I go to add a keybind for it. BUTTONS DONT WORK ON BUTTON KEYBIND EITHER. Like idk game straight up isn't playable lmao

Eastern Exorcist is a decent hack-and-slash 2D side scrolling game. The game's English subtitles are sometimes done incorrectly. Furthermore, the game can only be played in 1080p as the highest resolution. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a short, mindless 2D hack-and-slash game then this might be the on you're looking for.
