Fight for freedom as a resistance fighter battling an occupying Korean force across a devastated near-future America in this visceral FPS campaign written by John Milius. Engage in intense infantry and vehicle combat both solo and online, wielding guerrilla tactics and commandeered military technology to take down an overwhelming enemy force.

The year is 2027. The world as we know it is unraveling after fifteen years of economic meltdown and widespread global conflict over dwindling natural resources.

Abandoned by her former allies, the United States is a bleak landscape of walled towns and abandoned suburbs. This is a police state where high school stadiums have become detention centers, and shopping malls shelter armored attack vehicles. A once-free people are now prisoners… or collaborators… or revolutionaries.

✦ AI summary

Players praise the game's short campaign length and occasional standout story moments, particularly its depiction of occupation in the early sections. However, they consistently criticize dated mechanics including sluggish movement, poor friendly AI, inconsistent hit detection behind cover, and unfair enemy accuracy, alongside sparse weapon variety and heavy scripting that punishes deviation. The game's age shows significantly, making it a tough recommend except perhaps at bargain prices for those seeking nostalgia or a quick playthrough.

I honestly had a really good time with Homefront. I know the game got a lot of criticism when it came out, and I can definitely see where some of it comes from, but I still think there’s a good game here. I really enjoyed the setting and the whole idea of fighting through an occupied America. The gameplay feels a bit dated now, and there are definitely some rough edges, but it never stopped me from having fun. It’s far from perfect, but I genuinely think Homefront is a solid and underrated game that’s worth experiencing.

Recommended. A compressed, story-driven military shooter set in occupied suburban America whose propaganda-broadcast worldbuilding and grim set-pieces land far better than its brief runtime suggests. Gun audio carries real punch, the opening bus sequence remains unforgettable a decade on, and the white phosphorus strike is genuinely disturbing. Goliath drone support fights with cheerful indifference, and the Voice of Freedom radio interludes build an occupied-country atmosphere straight military stories rarely attempt. A toggle-only aim-down-sights with effectively absent controller support causes repeated mistakes, endless-respawn defence waves make sniping pointless, and mid-mission control remapping during the chopper escape frustrates. Ammo for specific weapons sometimes cannot be replenished, and collectible notes promise more than they deliver. Judge the campaign as an evening's story and it earns its keep.

Pretty bad shooter. Can't jump over obstacles. Story is meh. It's edgy, for shooter it's cool. Ending was epic. But the game didn't age well.

A pretty solid B-movie experience. I mean, what do you expect from a game whose plot is North Korea invading the US?
